Description
Australia Patents Act 1990 Complete Specification Innovative Patent Rotating Brush Conveyor Belt Cleaner The following statement is a full description of this invention including the best methods of performing it know to us.
Rotating Brush Conveyor Belt Cleaner Conveyor belt cleaning is highly important as product hang up (i.e. product material sticking to the belt after discharge) is wasteful, wearing and requires constant clean up. In the past, existing cleaning systems comprised a belt scraper and/or water sprays. The belt scraper by it's nature imposes wear and reduces belt life. Water sprays require associated plumbing, drainage and product material compatibility. This invention has been specifically devised to provide an improved conveyor belt cleaning system that is simple in operation, effective and constantly sweeps the belt. A Rotating Brush Conveyor Belt Cleaner in accordance with this invention comprises a drive roller coupled to a cylindrical brush. The drive roller is rotated by belt direction and is coupled to the cylindrical brush in such a fashion that causes the cylindrical brush to rotate in the opposite direction to that of belt. Refer Figure 1 Option 1- Direct Drive Coupling Refer Fig 2 The drive wheels are rotated by belt motion. The drive wheels are in direct contact with a bared section of brush roller which rotated in opposite direction and constantly sweeps the belt clean. Refer Fig 2. Option 2- Flexible Drive Coupling Refer Figure 3 The drive roller centre spindle is fixed to drive roller consequently as drive roller rotates so does centre spindle. Similarly the centre spindle of brush roller is also fixed to brush roller. Utilizing existing cable drive technology it is possible to couple the drive roller to the brush roller. The brush roller will rotate in opposite direction to belt travel, thus contra rotation is achieved and constant belt sweeping is achieved as well as greater flexibility of design and application. i.e. distance between drive roller and brush roller. Refer Fig 3.
Option 3- Pinion Gear Coupling Refer Flgure 4 As with option 2, spindles rotate as the drive roller and brush roller rotate. Two identical pinion gearboxes are connected via the coupling shaft. The drive gears are attached to the spindles and contra rotation is achieved. Again flexibility of design is achieved. Refer Figure 4. Option 4- Gear Box Coupling Refer Figure 5 As with option 2 and 3, spindles rotate as the drive roller and brush rotate. The drive roller spindle is connected to a toothed gear within the gearbox. As this gear is meshed with a second gear, contra rotation is achieved. The second gear is then connected to spindle of brush roller which causes the brush roller to rotate in the opposite direction to belt travel. Other floating gears may be inserted into gearbox in pairs to provide adequate space between drive roller and brush roller. Refer Fig 5.
Option 1, Direct Drive coupling utilizes rubber wheels concentric to drive spindles and in direct contact with a bared section. i.e. the plastic core of the brush roller. In all cases the brush roller is formed of nylon bristles attached to a plastic core which rotates on a spindle as in option 1 or is fixed to the spindle as in option 2,3 and 4. Options 2,3 and 4 utilize a rubber lined steel roller which is fixed to a steel spindle. The spindle is held in place to a sub frame via dust sealed bearings. Similarly the brush roller is installed to sub frame. Both the drive roller and the brush roller are attached to the spindle via a key lock, taper lock or pinning to facilitate ease of maintenance. All rotating gears are dust sealed and lubricated within steel gear boxes and also installed within the sub frame. The sub frame is then attached to existing conveyor belt frames.
Claims (5)
1. A rotary brush conveyor belt cleaner that utilizes belt motion as it's energy source.
2. A rotary brush conveyor belt cleaner that obtains opposite rotation of brush in relation to belt motion.
3. A rotary brush conveyor belt cleaner that derives contra rotation as described in claim 2 via rotation of the drive roller.
4. A rotating brush conveyor belt cleaner that is coupled between drive roller and brush roller via any one of the 4 options (previously described) i.e. Direct Coupling, Flexi drive coupling, pinion gear coupling and gear box coupling.
5. A rotating brush conveyor belt cleaner that has the brush roller rotating at a faster rpm than the drive roller due to appropriately sized diameters of the two rollers.
