Description
Regulation 3.2 AUSTRALIA PATENTS ACT 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION FOR AN INNOVATION PATENT ORIGINAL Name of Applicant: June Shaw Actual Inventor: June Shaw Address for Service: June Shaw, of Unit 100, Forrest Place Village, 9 Happy Valley Drive, Happy Valley, 5159, South Australia, Australia Invention title: THE IMPROVED SLEEPOVER The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me.
2 Improved Portable Cot Underlay The improved Sleepover 5 Almost all portable cots have a removable, fold up base which consists of a very thin layer of foam on a hard board, usually covered in a synthetic material which is cold to the touch. Fastening strips are provided by the manufacturer of the portable cot at least to one end of the fold up base. Many people put their infant at risk by using blankets, or folded quilts or towels as extra padding 0 which may slide around and could result in suffocation. This invention has been specifically designed to cover the base of a portable cot providing an improved level of safety, comfort and hygiene, whereby the removable base with the cot underlay located on it, is able to be secured to the bottom of the portable cot, eliminating the possible hazard of 5 the base being moved or lifted from the bottom of the portable cot other than by an adult. The improved Sleepover, in accordance with this invention consists of a softly padded, underlay which fits on the hard base of a portable cot. Significantly, with at least one aperture at at least one end of the cot underlay, enabling at least one fastening strip to be located, (pre fitted by the portable cot .0 manufacturer) and positioned appropriately to fasten the base to the bottom of the portable cot. The improved portable cot underlay is similar in appearance to a conventional quilt with at least one pocket type compartment, but preferably two pocket type compartments stitched on to the back, with an opening in the middle, so that the hard cot base can be slid into it, thus fitting completely and 25 securely over the removable base. To fit, the improved Sleepover and the removable base should be folded in half with the padded side in, slide the base into the pocket compartments, pull on the cot underlay and open out. The cot underlay may additionally have a finger loop on one side stitched into the seam edge, or on both sides, 30 positioned between the pocket compartments to facilitate fitting onto the removable cot base. The Sleepover is preferably made from polyester/cotton outer fabric, the filling being polyester fibre; however other fabrics can also be used such as 100% cotton outer fabric, with all cotton or other fibres as a well as a mixture of cotton, wool and synthetic fibres for the filling. 35 The Sleepover measures approximately 75cm x 110cm which will fit the most popular size of portable cots, however, other sizes for smaller or larger portable cots may also be made.
3 The improved padded, fitted, portable cot underlay is illustrated below, which shows: Figure 1. The quilted top section as would be seen when placed into the portable cot ready for use. 5 Figure 2. The reverse side of the padded, fitted, portable cot underlay showing the aperture (2 & 3) whereby the fastening strips on the fold up base of the portable cot may be located, and drawn through the aperture for securing the base to the bottom of the portable cot. 0 The two pocket compartments are shown (4 & 5) and the opening (6) which permits the cot underlay to be slid onto the fold up base when in a folded position, and then opened out thereby creating a secure fitting of the cot underlay over the base of the portable cot.
Claims (5)
1. A portable cot underlay for covering the removable base of a portable cot, comprising a top quilted section with the provision of at least one aperture at at least one end for receiving a fastening 5 strip from the base of the portable cot.
2. A portable cot underlay, as claimed in 1, whereby the cot underlay may be fitted completely and securely over the base of the portable cot, significantly, by the provision of two pocket compartments on the reverse section. 0
3. A portable cot underlay according to any one of claims I or 2 wherein the top section is quilted, stitched to the pocket compartments on the back, and with the provision of at least one aperture at at least one end for locating the pre fitted fastening strip on the base, enabling the base to be secured to the bottom of the portable cot. 5
4. A portable cot underlay according to any one of the claims I to 3, wherein the portable cot underlay is made from polyester/cotton fabric and polyester filling, with polyester/cotton pocket compartments on the reverse of 50cm each from both ends of the length of 110cm leaving a 10cm opening in the middle. .0
5. A padded, fitted portable cot underlay with at least one aperture at at least one end, substantially as herein before described with references to figures 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawings.
