Regulation 3.2 AUSTRALIA Patents Act 1990 INNOVATION SPECIFICATION APPLICANT: Frances Mineo NUMBER: FILING DATE: INVENTION TITLE: CANDLE MEANS The invention is described in the following statement: - -2 CANDLE MEANS 5 Field of the Invention This invention relates to a candle and in particular to a means for improving the function of a candle. It is particularly related to providing an improved repeatable aesthetic look and light effectiveness of a candle. 10 Background to the Invention Candles are commonly used by a wide range of individuals and institutions for a variety of purposes. Individuals may use candles at home for personal use during meditation and prayer or for social gatherings such as dinner parties. For centuries 15 candles have been associated with religious customs and are used extensively in religious institutions. In addition, candles have become a key accessory and decorative feature for use in reception and function centres during such occasions as weddings, birthday parties and anniversaries. For such use the candles are placed in decorative candelabras as a centrepiece for tables or around the room to provide a 20 romantic ambiance. Given the widespread and extensive use of candles, individuals and organisations that use candles continually and on a consistent basis are seeking a cheaper and convenient solution to continually purchasing decorative candles that disintegrate over time and require replacing. 25 The continuous and constant replacement of candles becomes an inconvenience and an unnecessary expense. Particularly where it becomes difficult to replace candles that, for example in function centres, need to match the remaining candles in the candelabras. 30 Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to overcome or substantially ameliorate the disadvantages of the prior art by providing a device which allows for the easy insertion, removal, handling and positioning of a replaceable candle. Summary of the Invention 35 The present invention provides a candle means for use with a candle having a first diameter, the means comprising: a holding means having a body portion with an open top able to hold a replacement candle portion; wherein the body portion having a body portion of a second diameter less than the first diameter and shape able to be -3 received in the top end of a central cavity of a candle able to hold a replacement candle portion; whereby the candle means retains the effective look of the candle while providing an everlasting effect by use of replacement candle portions. 5 The candle attachment can be a substantially cylindrical shape to fit in a central cavity of a candle able to hold a replacement candle portion and the side wall of the holding means is formed of heat retarding material in order to prevent heat effect on the candle body in which the candle attachment is supported, the candle attachment including a upper barrier extending from an upper side of the substantially cylindrical 10 shape to substantially isolate the top of a candle body from the top of the replacement candle portion and maintain integrity of the candle while providing the effective look of the candle while providing an everlasting effect by use of replacement candle portions. 15 Also the invention provides a method of providing an everlasting effect of a candle such as in use in a decorative candelabra, the method including the steps of: providing an elongated candle body; providing a central axial elongated cavity of the candle body extending to an open top of the candle; 20 providing a candle means including a candle attachment in the form of a cylindrical shroud which is at least partially heat resistant for receipt in the top portion of the central axial elongated cavity of the candle body; providing a replaceable candle portion in the candle means; locating the replaceable candle portion relative the top of the candle; 25 whereby the lighting of the candle portion simulates lighting of the candle body while maintaining the integrity of the candle body; and whereby replacement of the replaceable candle portion rejuvenates the candle effect without replacing the candle body. 30 In one form of the invention there is provided a method of providing a continually reusable candle such as in use in a decorative candelabra, the method including the steps of: providing an elongated candle body; coring out a central axial cylindrical portion of the candle body; 35 providing a candle means in the form of a cylindrical heat shroud for insertion in the cored central axial top portion of the candle body; providing a replaceable candle portion in the candle attachment -4 whereby the burning of the candle portion simulates burning of the candle body while maintaining the integrity of the candle body; and whereby replacement of the replaceable candle portion rejuvenates the candle effect without replacing the candle body. 5 It can be seen that the invention provides improvements to protect expensive and decorative candles. It allows for the easy removal of the reusable candle. In addition, with adequate bordering and protective measures, the candle holder is protected against the heat emanating from the replaceable candle. As such the candle holder is 10 not affected by the flame and does not disintegrates or require replacing. Further the replaceable candle is effectively hidden from view. The aim of such a device has been to create an illusion that although a replaceable candle is utilised it appears as though the candle holder is the source of the flame. In addition, even if 15 the wax from the replaceable candle will drip inside the main candle holder. This means that the replaceable candle will not sit appropriately inside the candle as it will be lumpy and protrude out of the candle holder making it obvious that there is a second candle being used. Over time, a new decorative candle will be required as the cavity will be filled with wax and will not allow the replaceable candle to be 20 inserted effectively. As the ultimate objective is to ensure that the integrity of the decorative candle is maintained, the prior art fails to achieve this everlasting effect. Brief Description of the Drawings In order that the invention can be more readily understood an embodiment is 25 described by way of non-limiting example of a specific embodiment with reference to the drawings wherein Figure 1 is a cross sectional diagram of the candle and first embodiment of the candle means to illustrate the placement in the candle body and the elements comprising this embodiment of the candle means; 30 Figure 2 is a cross sectional diagram of the candle attachment of Figure 1; Figure 3 is a cross sectional diagram of another embodiment of the candle attachment of Figure 1; Figure 4 is a cross sectional diagram of the candle and second embodiment of the candle means to illustrate the placement in the candle body and the elements 35 of the holding means including a candle attachment receiving a first embodiment of a holder for holding the replaceable candle portion; -5 Figure 5a is a cross sectional diagram of a second embodiment of the holder of the holding means for receipt in the candle attachment of Figure 4 where the holder is for holding the replaceable candle portion; and Figure 5b is a perspective diagrammatic view of the holder of Figure 5a; 5 Figure 6 is perspective top view of a further embodiment of a holding means for the replaceable candle portion of Figure 4; Figure 7 is a cross sectional diagram of the candle body to illustrate a further embodiment of the candle body and the elements comprising the candle attachment means; 10 Figure 8 is a cross sectional diagram of the candle body to illustrate a further embodiment of the candle body and the elements comprising the candle attachment means. Description of a Preferred Embodiment of the Invention 15 Referring to Figures 1, 2 and 3, in this preferred embodiment, the invention provides for a candle means 15 for use in an elongated candle 12. The candle means 15 is used to provide a holding means 30 wherein in this embodiment the holding means is a candle attachment 31 mounted in a central top cavity 25 of the candle body 22 of the candle 12 for receiving a replaceable candle portion 40. In doing so the 20 replacement of the replaceable candle portion 40 rejuvenates the candle effect without requiring the replacement of the elongated candle body 22. The candle 12 comprises of an elongated candle body 22 having a first diameter and a central cavity 25 having a second diameter less than the first diameter. The candle 25 attachment 31 of the candle means 15 having a body portion that comprises of side walls and base forming a shroud 32 and an open top, which is able to receive the replaceable candle portion 40, and the body of the candle attachment 31 having a diameter less than the second diameter forming the central cavity 25 so as to be able to be received therein. 30 The candle 12 to be used can be one that is decorative, where the elongated candle body 22 portrays decorative details, and is one in which the user intends to continually reuse. The candle is to be appropriately sized, in width and length, to fit adequately within a candelabrum and to effectively provide a holding means for the 35 replaceable candle portion 40. The candle attachment 31 can hold a replaceable candle portion 40 having a third diameter substantially equal to or less than the -6 second diameter. In this manner the candle attachment provides an effective everlasting effect by use of replacement candle portions. The preferred embodiment of the invention requires the central cavity 25 to be 5 formed by the coring out of the central axial top portion of the candle 12 to provide for the receiving of the replacement candle portion 40. The candle attachment 31 is substantially in a cylindrical shape to form a central cavity 25 and open top to allow for the receiving of a replaceable candle portion 40. 10 The side wall of the candle attachment 31 forming the inner circumference of the holding means is formed of heat retarding material to form a cylindrical heat shroud 32 along the side walls of the central cavity 35 and further includes an upper barrier which in Figure 2 is a flat collar 33 and in Figure 4 is a lip 34 extending from an upper side of the substantially cylindrical shape candle attachment 31 to substantially 15 overlap the top of a candle body to act as a protective measure to maintain the integrity of the candle and prevent the heat emanating from the replaceable candle portion 40 affecting the candle 12. This forms the initial protection to maintain the integrity of the candle 12 and, in addition, the material used will allow for the easy removal of wax that may have entered the central cavity 25. 20 The candle attachment in the form of Figure 1 and 2 comprising of a collar 33 extending from an upper side of the candle attachment 31 has the collar in use not being visible from a side view. The collar sits flat along the top portion of the candle body 22 extending to an area more than the second diameter of the body portion of 25 the candle attachment 31. Such a structure allows for the easy removal and insertion of the candle whilst providing for a secondary mechanism for protection of the elongated candle while the replaceable candle portion 40 is burning. The method for the implementation of the candle attachment 31 to provide a holding 30 means for a reusable candle portion 40 requires a candle, with an elongated candle body of appropriate portions, in which the central axial top portion of the candle body can be cored out to provide a central cavity 25 and the candle attachment 31 being in the form of a cylindrical heat shroud for the insertion into the top portion of the candle body 22. A replaceable candle portion 40 can now be inserted into the candle 35 attachment 31 whereby the burning of the candle portion simulates burning of the candle 12 while maintaining the integrity of the candle body. When the replaceable candle portion 40 is fully used, the replaceable candle portion 40 can be replaced -7 whereby the replacement of the replaceable candle portion 40 rejuvenates the candle effect without replacing the candle body. With reference to Figures 4 and 5a and 5b, there is shown a further embodiment of 5 the invention in which the holding means 30 includes a candle attachment 31 but further has the replaceable candle portion 40 mounted in a removable holder 35. In one form the holder can be an open top container. If made of thin low cost material it could be a disposable unit with the used replaceable candle portion 40. Different depth disposable units can be used particularly if used with embodiment of Figure 6. 10 In another embodiment of the holder 35 as shown in Figures 5a and 5b there is a holder having side walls 36 with an open top and a base having a central opening 38 that is covered by a moveable plate 39 located within the holder and beneath the replaceable candle portion 40. This embodiment is particularly advantageous to 15 make use of creating replaceable candle portions 40 from the material that has been cored from the candle body 22 to form the central cavity 25. The cored material can be used to form discs of required depths to form the replaceable candle portions 40. Further by having the removable bottom plate 39 it is particularly easy to remove left over material by protruding something through the bottom opening 38 and expelling 20 left overs and reloading the holder with a new replaceable candle portion 40 cut from the cored material forming the central cavity or from a candle having a diameter less than the central cavity. In Figures 6 and 7 there are shown two possible further embodiments. In the further 25 embodiment of the invention of Figure 6 we can have the depth of the central cavity 25, depending on the shape and length of the candle body 22, can hold 2 or more replaceable candles portions 40. This can act as a storage device for replaceable candles portions 40 but in addition can allow for the easy replacement of the replaceable candle portion 40. For example, when the first replaceable candle can no 30 longer be used, it can simply be lifted off to allow the next candle in line to be used. However the depth of the central cavity 25 also can act as a means for including different length of the replaceable candle portion 40 for different length of time lighting. For example in one instance only a two hour lit time could be sufficient and 35 a shallow 2 hour replaceable candle portion 40 can be used. In another usage a 4 hour, 8 hour, or 10 hour lit time is required and different depth replaceable candle -8 portions 40 can be used and still be locatable in the holder 30 in the extended central cavity 25. Referring to Figure 7 there is another form showing that the central cavity can be 5 cored up to the full length of the candle body so that a minimum of candle material is needed to maintain the integrity of the candle 12 while giving a look of a sizable solid candle. While we have described herein a particular embodiment of a candle improvement, it 10 is further envisaged that other embodiments of the invention could exhibit any number and combination of any one of the features previously described. However, it is to be understood that any variations and modifications can be made without departing from the spirit and scope as defined in the following claims. 15 For example the invention can relate to other shaped candles such as square cross section. Further the cylindrical cavities can be other shapes such as square. Still further the cylindrical cavity and the candle need not coincide. For example a square cavity can be in a circular cross section candle or a circular cylinder in a square candle. 20 It can be seen the invention ensures that the larger decorative candle is not affected by the heat emanating from the replaceable candle and the decorative larger candle is able to keep its form, shape, appearance and integrity and thus results in a cost effective and convenient solution for users of such products. 25
