C- BACKGROUND ART
O
Ci Conventional pillows consist of a pillow casing and a pillow body.
00 SThe pillow body is usually made of a filler substance (such as foam, C polyester, microfibre or feathers) selected as a result of its ability to provide comfort to the head and neck of the user when in use. However, these pillow bodies do not assist the user in any other way and may pose respiratory health risks to users prone to air borne allergies if the substance from which the body is made is allergenic.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the present invention to provide a pillow comprising therapeutically effective aromatic substances which assists the user's respiration.
According to one aspect of the invention there is provided a pillow comprising a pillow casing and a pillow body, wherein the pillow body comprises:filler; and therapeutically effective aromatic substances dispersed within the filler, such that the therapeutically effective aromatic substances relieve.
congestion in the airways of the user, assisting respiration.

SUMMARY OF THE DRAWINGS In order that the invention may be more readily understood and put LC< into practical effect, reference will now be made to the accompanying Cl drawing (Fig.1) which is a top view of a pillow according to one 00 C embodiment of the invention.
c l DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The embodiment of the pillow 10 shown in Fig.1 consists of a pillow casing 12 and a pillow body 14. The pillow casing 12 (which may be fabricated of a variety of materials) consists of a single piece of material formed as a sleeve into which the pillow body 14 can be securely placed.
In the alternative, the pillow casing 12 can comprise a plurality of pieces of material constructed to form a sleeve as shown in Fig.1.
The pillow body 14 of the pillow 10 comprises filler 16 and therapeutically effective aromatic substances 18. The therapeutically effective aromatic substances 18 are dispersed and free to migrate throughout the filler 16, although the therapeutically effective aromatic substances 18 could be concentrated at particular fixed locations in the pillow body 14 if desired.
The therapeutically effective aromatic substances 18 are dispersed within the pillow body 14 such that, in use, the heat from the user releases aromatic particles from the therapeutically effective aromatic substances 18. These aromatic particles pass through the pillow casing 12 into the atmosphere immediately surrounding the user. The user then inhales these aromatic particles during respiration. Upon entering the user's airways, the 13/05/2008 COMS ID No: ARCS-190563 Received by IP Australia: Time 16:42 Date 2008-05-14 I 5 0 1 F. 37 ;512 9247z 445 5/ 14 00 4 aromatic particles act to relieve congestion of the airways, assisting respiration, and may benefit the user in other ways.
It has been found that the pillow is most therapeutically effective when the therapeutically effective aromatic substances 18 comprise a mixture of plant material from the tea tree and lavender plants. It has also LC< been found that the therapeutic effect of the pillow is enhanced when the Cl filler is hay.
00 SIn this particular embodiment, the pillow casing 12 is comprised of "l cotton fabric, which allows the aromatic particles from the therapeutically effective aromatic substances 18 to travel through the pillow casing 12 into the atmosphere surrounding the user when in use.
In this embodiment, the plant material from tea tree is placed in sachets 20 which confine that material to being dispersed in a particular distribution pattern within the pillow body 14. Preferably, the sachets are constructed from cotton fabric so that the aromatic tea tree particles can travel through the cotton fabric into the surrounding atmosphere. The plant material 22 from lavender plants is exposed and is scattered randomly within the pillow body 14.
In the alternative, all of the therapeutically effective aromatic substances 18 can be exposed and scattered randomly through the filler 16, or all of the therapeutically effective aromatic substances 18 can be placed in sachets When the therapeutically effective aromatic substances 18 comprises more than one substance, it may be desirable, depending on the relative differences in their mode of action, for one or some of the substances to be placed in the sachets 20 and for other of the substances to be randomly scattered into the filler.
13/05/2008 COMS ID No: ARCS-190563 Received by IP Australia: Time 16:42 Date 2008-05-14 14-05 -08; 16:37 ;612 9247 9945 00 In the alternative, the therapeutically effective aromatic substances 18 may comprise essential oils derived from plant material rather than plant materials themselves.
In will be appreciated that other known therapeutically effective aromatic substances, such as eucalyptus, could be added to, or substituted C for, the therapeutically effective aromatic substances described herein.
NC Although the pillow 10 shown in the drawing is rectangular in shape, 00 O it would be appreciated that pillows of other shapes are contemplated C within the scope of this invention.
It will be apparent to persons skilled in the art that various modifications may be made in details of design and construction of the therapeutic pillow described above without departing from the scope and ambit of the invention.
