Description
00 Description SIn an embodiment of the invention, there is provided a nasal device comprising a nasal clip and a first and second arm, the clip including first and second opposed Cc members joined via a connector; the first arm being attached to the first member of the clip, and the second arm being attached to the second member of the clip, wherein the opposed members releasably grip a nasal septum and wherein the arms extend
INO
In from the members of the clip to apply localized pressure to the inside of the nostrils in the region of the limen nasi (the narrowest point of the nasal cavity, a protuberance on 00 the lateral nasal wall, just superior to the nares).
With regard to the embodiment as defined above, the device can be made of any practicable material or materials. The device can comprise a single material for all parts, or different materials for each part, or be manufactured in a first material and then coated in a second material. The material of manufacture should render the device washable, and therefore reusable, flexible for comfort and effective pressure application, and hypoallergenic. Preferably, the device is made from hypoallergenic medical grade synthetic plastic or rubber.
The clip comprising the opposing members and the connector is generally a U-shaped configuration. Preferably the opposing members sit inferiorly down the nasal septum to fit snugly against the superior part of the foot of the columella (the skin-covered outer part of the septum). The ends of the opposing members in contact with the septum can be any configuration which ensures comfort to the wearer. The ends are preferably rounded pads for even and comfortable distribution of pressure.
The connector preferably sits close to, but not touching, the external skin of the columella. In this way, the opposing members are able to apply pressure to the septum to prevent the device from dislodging, and to aide in the reduction of snoring by stimulating the nerves of the septum.
The arms of the device can be attached to the opposing members in any practicable manner. Preferably the arms, opposing members and connector are manufactured as a single unit, and even more preferably, the device is manufactured to be in a single plane.
The arms can be any practicable configuration, but are preferably elongated such that only the ends of the arms remote from the opposing members contact the inside of the nostril at a localized point. The point of contact can be any configuration but 00 preferably has a soft bulbous pad on the contact end to apply a direct outward 0 Opressure to the limen nasi resulting in a nett opening of the nasal passages.
SThe surface area of the pads reduces the risk of tissue damage, as the gentle inward and outward pressure will be evenly spread across the respective tissues. The en3 outwardly extending arms not only dilate the nasal cavity, but also support the clip, further ensuring that the device is not easily dislodged.
