Description

EDITORIAL NOTE 2008100840 There are Two Pages of Description 00 A portable hand held thermoelectric beverage and beer O cooler. Stubby cooler, Beer cooler, Description.
o The "Stubby cooler" was invented in the late 70's. It consists of wet Suit type material around 3mm thick and 110mm, and is fashioned into a cylinder. Its main O purpose Is to prolong the coldness of the beverage and to keep the hand from cooling. This works well but when the temperature exceeds 25C the beverage becomes O considerably warm, and higher temps makes the beverage unable to be consumed towards the end (particularly in O the case of beer) i0 00 The invention can keep cold beverages cold to the end in O temperatures up to 45C and chill beverage containers from room temperature and above to near zero.
The invention utilizes a thermoelectric (Peltier) device 11 to suck heat from the bottom of the beverage container 10 which is insulated by a conventional cooler 17. The heat is then transferred to a heat sink 14,and is dissipated.
The ideal beverage container is aluminium but can Chill all types of containers effectively for 6-8hrs.The upper insulating sleeve 17 is constructed from polypropylene.
Cooling block 10 is constructed of aluminium and is contoured at The top to fit cans and glass bottles more tightly thus increasing Cooling efficiency.
Directly under the cooling block is the peltier Device 11, this is the main component in this device. It facilitates the actual sucking of heat from the cooling block 10 to the heat sink 14 where the heat is dissipated.
A simple circuit 13 controls the peltier 11. This consists of a 555 timer (oscillator), charger circuit, 2xtemprature switches, and a Lithium ion battery The peltier 11 turns on when Temperature at the cooling block 10 is above 0C and is switched on for around 5min and 00
O

q Cl 0 Off for Imin. This is to increase battery 15 life and is variable to obtain optimum settings.
A thermal fan on the heat sink (not Pictured)is to facilitate speedy heat dissipation and is also controlled by circuit 13. The cooling fan is optional and the device is efficient without it.
Nylon spacers and bolts 12 hold the whole assembly together. Nylon was used to reduce thermal flow around the peltier 11.
The surfaces 10 and 15 in contact with the peltier 11 are coated with silver compound to facilitate efficient thermal flow. The gaps between the cooling blocks 10 and the heat sink 15 are filled with Silicone glue 16 to aid insulation.
