Description
00 DESCRIPTION 0 0 This innovation application related to improvements to sling furniture cushions.
OO Previously cushions were added to sling furniture are a 3rd party attachment and en would be generic and require attachment via straps or similar mechanical attachment O to the existing furniture framework. The disadvantage with the existing systems OO would cause the cushions to move on the framework and cause discomfort to the user O of the furniture.
Other attempts would also including sandwiching the foam between 2 pieces of textile and attaching the textile to the frame. This method doesn't give users the cushion effect as the front and back of the textile is under tension. The cushion feel is minimised from the attempt.
This innovation integrates a foam or similar padding material into the textile and framework of furniture making the cushion part of the actual furniture frame and thus increasing the users comfort. Only the back of the textile is under tension leaving the front with a cushion feel.
The innovation involves stitching a foam or similar cushion textile top onto existing textile leaving overhang on the back textile to stretch onto a frame. The cushion construction is attached to the furniture frame by inserting the overhang into a groove on the frame and then securing it by wedging a metal or plastic rod into the groove.
The following 2 figures help to illustrate the innovation we are claiming.
Figure 1.1 Shows the Stretched Sling material across the metal frame work on one edge, each edge is secured in same way. The sling frame then attaches to the chair frame. The sling frame is attached using standard screw or fasteners. Note the cushioned area of the pad is left uncompressed leaving a cushioned feel for the user.
00 Figure 1.2 Another view of the Stretched Sling material across the metal frame.
Refence to Figure 1.1 made to stitching of the cushion onto the stretched back of the Sling on the underside. Material such as Polyester coated cotton textiles are used to make these slings or other similar textile materials.
00 Securing the 2 metal edges of the sling to a prefabricated or existing chair frame gives In the user a springy sling feel coupled with a cushion effect.
