Description

AUSTRALIA
Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT WHIP THONG OF THREADED SEGMENTS The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best way of performing it known to me: 00 WHIP THONG OF THREADED SEGMENTS 0 For many centuries many types of whips have been made they may be a thong only or a handle attached to a thong, generally they have been made by plaiting long strands of leather, this is very time consuming and takes years of on 5 practice before the maker is a master craftsperson. This Sinvention has been specially devised in order to provide a long lasting whip thong that is simple and cheap to produce, 0assembled by a person with little previous experience and is no more difficult to use (crack) than a leather whip. The whip thongs' durability comes about because unlike a leather whip the, "Whip Thong Of Threaded Segments" can be made out of materials that are superior in strength and durability to that of leather.
A whip thong with threaded segments in accordance with this invention comprises a piece of rope of any length with a loop at its extremity, the loop will be the mechanism to attach the thong to a handle or if the thong is to be used without a handle the loop will stop the segments from slipping of the end. The loop might be secured in place with a knot, or by binding, splicing, stitching, weaving, revetting and/ or clamping. The segments are then threaded onto the rope. The segments preferably should have a smaller inside diameter to the outside diameter of the rope to which they are being threaded, so as to minimise recoil after the whip thong has been cracked. The outside diameter of the segments may be any measurement, although for the whip thong to work well the segments have a gradual reduction of their out side diameter the further away from the loop end they are placed. This gradual tapper helps create the whipping action. The segments might also be described as: washers, shims, gaskets, or o-rings. The segments preferably tend to be thin although they may be any thickness.
00 The segments are preferably made from reinforced rubber 0 and/or synthetic resins, however segments may be made from: leather, metal, plastic, cardboard, wood or recycled car tyres. After the desired amount of segments have been threaded onto the rope, thus the length and taper of the whip thong has been determined, the segments are pushed tightly together and this end is secured with a knot, clamp, binding M etc. Another smaller loop may be formed to attach a whiptail 8although preferably the rope on which the segments are will continue and form the whips' tail. It is preferred that a 0cracker be attached to the tail, the "Segmented Whip Thong" Sis preferably attached to a handle (stockwhip) or it may be cracked by its self (bullwhip).
The invention maybe better understood with reference to the illustrations of embodiment of the invention which: Figure 1 is an elevation of the whip thong of threaded segments.
Figure 2 is a dimensional representation of a segment indicating the inside and outside diameter and segment thickness.
Figure 3 is an alternative means of securing the loop.
Figure 4 illustrates the outside diameter of the rope.
Figure 5 is an alternative means of securing the tail end and shows the cracker attached.
Figure 6 is a small loop at the tail end, so a different tail may be attached if the original one wears out.

Claims (4)

1. A whip thong comprising a piece of rope of any length with a loop tied into its' extremity and having disk like segments with a hole through their centre, which gradually decrease in their outside diameter, threaded along the rope to form a tapered thong and having a knot tied into the rope to secure the segments between both ends after which the rope continues to form the whips tail.
2. A whip thong as claimed in claim 1, be found to work adequately oo weather being attached to a handle or used by its' self.
3. A whip thong as claimed in claim 1 and 2 wherein the disk like segments are made from synthetic resins.
4. A whip thong according to any of one of the claims 1-3 wherein the outside diameter of the rope be greater than the inside diameter of the segment. A whip thong substantially as herein before describe with reference to figures 1-6 of the accompanying drawings. Michael James Denigan 9 h January 2008
