Description
FERRULE TIES This invention relates to devices for tying ferrules or P ferrule chairs to reinforcing bars, mesh or the like, herein referred to as ferrule ties.
NO Ferrules up till now are held in place in moulds for pre- 00 cast concrete panels by Ferrule Chairs. These chairs have hollow legs and are fixed to the casting bed by drilling down C through the centre of the legs into the bed and then hammering in dowels. This is all done by free hand measuring and drilling which leads to errors and also allows considerable movement and flexing in ferrules. Also once the panel is stood up these dowels have to be ground off, patched and sanded. These dowels also cause extra suction to the bed when the panel is being lifted which causes more stress on the panel.
In one aspect the invention resides broadly in a ferrule tie including: connecting means adapted to engage with two or more spaced apart portions of a ferrule chair so as to prevent sideways movement of the ferrule chair relative thereto and two or more securement means extending from said connecting means and adapted to be secured to steel reinforcing bar or mesh to thereby secure the ferrule chair in a selected position.
In order that the invention may be more easily understood
O
and put into practical effect, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings which illustrate a preferred P embodiment of the invention and wherein: Fig. 1 is a view of a ferrule tie according to the NO present invention from above in the orientation of use; 00 Fig. 2 is a pictorial representation of the ferrule chair of Fig. 1 connected to a ferrule chair; 9 Fig. 3 is a pictorial representation of the ferrule chair of Fig. 1 connected to the ferrule chair in Fig. 2 from a different perspective.
The ferrule tie plate illustrated in the drawings allows the chair to be tied to the mesh quickly by means of the four tails protruding from the ring where they intersect the mesh.
The plate could be made from any material however the preferred choice is plastic.
The Ferrule Tie Plate includes a ring with notches on the internal surface enabling the plate to be slipped over the fins on an existing common ferrule chair. The plate has four opposing tails at least long enough to intersect with standard mesh no matter where the chair is located.
To install place the plate over the chair then lay the mesh in the mould, position the chair over its mark and tie the four tails to the mesh with wire tie.
Advantageously, the ring has notches to grab over a standard ferrule chair and the long tails intersect with the S mesh and allow for a direct positive tie in several directions.
NO The foregoing description has been given by way of 00 illustrative example of the invention and many modifications S in variations which will be apparent to persons skilled in the 9 art may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Claims (2)
1. A ferrule tie including: connecting means adapted to engage with two or more spaced apart portions of a ferrule chair so as to prevent NO sideways movement of the ferrule chair relative thereto and 00 two or more securement means extending from said connecting means and adapted to be secured to steel reinforcing bar or C1 mesh to thereby secure the ferrule chair in a selected position.
2. A ferrule tie as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
