Description

IMPROVED GAME BOARD For many years, existing grid based, or checker patterned game boards (such as the boards of chess and draughts) have been composed of a fixed number of playing squares, contained within a defined and invariable perimeter.
Furthermore, due to these spatial limitations, such boards may facilitate only a fixed number of game board pieces, which in turn, limits the number of players that may play in a single game.
00 This invention has been specifically designed in order to provide an improved game board of simple, cheap, effective and readily reusable N construction and whereby the possible number of playing squares available for game play is much less restricted than in grid based game boards that have Sexisted prior to said improved game board. Games involving game board pieces N may be played upon said improved game board and due to this invention it is possible that any number of players may participate (exceeding one) and additionally, it is possible, due to this invention, that any number of game board pieces (each of which being placed within a playing square) may also be included in said games (exceeding zero).
A game board in accordance with this invention is comprised entirely of rectangular playing cards placed adjacently to one another upon a suitable surface (for example, a table top) in a manner which allows said game board pieces to be placed upon said playing cards and moved in accordance with the rules of a board game, such that said game board pieces may be moved not only from one playing square to another upon an individual playing card, but also from one playing card to another of said playing cards. The number of said cards positioned adjacently in the manner before mentioned, determines the shape and the size of the game board.
The dimensions of each individual playing card of which the said game board is comprised must have a length by width ratio of 3:2, and the surface must have six readily distinguishable playing squares illustrated upon it, such that it has the appearance of a section of grid based, or checker patterned, game board.
The individual playing cards are preferably made of cardboard in the manner of traditional playing cards, however other materials can be used. For example, the aforesaid cards may also be made from a suitable plastic material.
The six squares can be printed onto the surface of said card using any suitable printing process.
N The invention will be better understood with reference to the illustrations of l embodiments of the invention which: Figure 1 is a representation of an individual playing card, the basic component of the improved game board. One or more of such said cards, placed adjacently to one another, comprise the said game board. Depicted are the six playing squares printed upon said card's surface 00 Figure 2 is a representation of an individual playing card, illustrating that the length by width ratio of each said playing card is three is to two N Figure 3 is a representation of two individual playing cards, depicted adjacently in order to illustrate extension of the playable area available for any Sgame board pieces to be placed or moved upon aforesaid improved game board.
C1 In this drawing the improved game board is depicted having twice the number of playing squares had by the improved game board shown in Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a representation of three individual playing cards, depicted adjacently in order to illustrate additional extension of the playable area of the improved game board, and is intended to demonstrate how further extension of said game board is facilitated by additional aforementioned playing cards. In this drawing the improved game board is depicted having three times the number of playing squares that are had by the improved game board shown in Figure 1.
This conveys how the size and the shape of the improved game-board are both determined by the number and position of said playing card components.

Claims (4)

1. A game board comprising one or more playing cards, each of which are placed adjacently to one another on a surface, such that a consistent and OO continuous game playing area is created.
2. A game board as claimed in claim 1, wherein each component playing card that comprises said game board has printed upon its surface six readily distinguishable playing squares. N
3. A game board according to any claims 1 and 2, wherein each component playing card that comprises said game board has a length by width ratio of 3:2
4. A game board according to any claims 1, 2 and 3, wherein the size and shape of the playable area of said game board are equally determined by the both the number and position of the aforementioned playing cards. A game board substantially as herein before described with reference to figures 1-4 of the accompanying drawings. Thomas P. W. James 30 July 2007
