Description

DESCRIPTION
This innovative invention is a rectangular box shaped, rasp tool with bi-directional teeth (forward and backward facing), held by hand and used to physically remove and smoothen the surface of generally soft materials such as wood and plastic. The rasp tool as mentioned has a novel design of bi-directional teeth, pressed in alternating forward and backward facing rows across a stainless steel sheet body that is folded into the rectangular box shape. The bi-directional pattern of teeth, remove surface material on both the forward and backward stroke during use and are pressed through the underside, both sides and the front of the tool. The front teeth are in a left and right facing direction and together with the forward and backward orientation of the underneath and side teeth, enable use in difficult areas specifically 90? right angled corners. The end opposite the front is open, to allow efficient clearing of removed material during use and such removal is augmented by the rectangular box shaped body. The base of the open end is bent upwards to prevent it catching on the surface of the worked material and as such this region of the tool has no teeth. The novel design of the rasp tool mentioned includes a unique, comfortable, plastic hand grip with separate recessed areas for the thumb and fingers of the user. The grip is less in width than the stainless steel rectangular box of bi-directional teeth and together with the recessed areas and the front wall of the grip provide protection for the hand of the operator. The hand grip is attached via steel bolts and lock nuts to the top of the stainless steel rectangular box. The grip provides control over the amount of force applied and is suitable for use with the right or left hand of the user. Stainless steel is the preferred material for construction due to its strength and corrosion resistance. Other corrosion resistant, steel sheet products are also suitable. The underside: figure 1, of the hand rasp tool has bi-directional teeth: facing forward: lA and backward: IB, formed in alternating rows across the stainless steel sheet. The teeth remove material when the tool is used in the forward direction: lA and backward direction: lB. The bi-directional teeth are present on the folded stainless steel front sheet: figure 2, in a left: 2A and right: 2B, facing direction. The front wall of the hand grip: 2C is attached by two steel retaining bolts: 2D. A uniquely shaped, plastic hand grip: figure 3, above the stainless steel body provides a comfortable grasp of the tool during operation with separate, recessed areas for the thumb: 3A and 2 fingers: 3B of the operator and a protective front wall: 3C. The grip is up to shorter in width than the stainless steel box: 3D and secured at each comer to the box by a total of four steel bolts: 3E. The rear of the rectangular stainless steel box: figure 4, is open: 4A below the hand grip: 4B, to empty removed material and the base of the open end is bent up: 4C to avoid it catching on the material being worked. The hand grip secured by steel bolts and lock nuts: 4D, has right: 4E and left: 4F recessed areas for the users thumb. The sides of the folded stainless steel rectangular box: figure have the bi-directional teeth in a forward: 5A and backward: 5B facing direction below the plastic hand grip: 5C with recessed areas for the thumb and fingers: 5D of the user.
Figure Views.

Figure 2: Front view of the hand rasp tool showing the bi-directional teeth in left and right facing, alternating pattern of rows across the stainless steel sheet and the front wall of the unique plastic hand grip.
Figure 3: Top view of the hand rasp tool with the features of the unique plastic hand grip visible.
Figure 4: Rear view of the hand rasp tool showing open end and respective view of the unique grip attached by steel bolts and lock nuts.
Figure 5: Side view of the right hand side of the rasp tool showing the bidirectional teeth in alternating pattern of rows across the stainless steel sheet and the respective view of the unique hand grip.
Figure 6: Perspective view of the upper, front and left hand side of the rasp tool together revealing the attributes described in figures 2, 3 and IT'4 110 V, eAAWS

Claims (2)

  1. 3.Hand rasp tool as described in claim 1 and 2, with a rectangular box shape constructed of stainless steel sheet exhibiting strength and corrosion resistance, open at the back end to empty materials removed by the teeth.
  2. 4.Hand held rasp tool exhibiting bi-directional teeth underneath, both sides and the front, alternating forward and backward facing across a folded stainless steel sheet. The box shaped stainless steel sheet, gives strength and corrosion resistance with an open end for emptying removed material and the unique hand grip provides comfort, control and protection as described by the details and figures within this application.
