Description

Description
O
The SCUBAquarium is a purpose built dive training and aquatic awareness facility. Designed to 0 Smimic the actual marine environment of Australia, the SCUBAquarium offers more than just a Staster dive in an artifical aquatic environment. The SCUBAquarium will facilitate the entry-level confined water training and speciality dive courses. For this purpose, the depth of the Aquarium would be six metres at the deepest point and waist-height at the 'shallow end'. The SCUBAquarium would also operate as a commercial dive aquarium with the main focus on integrating it with dive training, and therefore promoting diver awareness. The concept is based on conservation, safety and preservation though teaching qualified divers and future divers about the Great Barrier Reef and other marine environments and their species. Divers will 'graduate' into more complex areas of the aquarium as they meet the standards set by Rachel Agnew and David Russell. Providing they meet the pre-requisites, the divers will be able to experience wreck diving, night diving, treasure hunting, navigation diving (to name a few) and even use the confined water training as a way of gaining recognised dive industry qualifications. Divers on their courses will be able to view the practical training in action in the purpose-designed lecture theatre, which will also be available for visting speakers and industry authorities on dive training, aquariums, safety and conservation.
The aquarium will also run fish breeding programmes and the dive students will gain some knowledge of this through their training experience at the SCUBAquarium.
The facility will be located close to the coast and will house a cafe restaurant and a retail area, to sell merchandise and SCUBA equipment.
SCUBAquarium will conduct training and abide by standards as set forth by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) and all instructors will be PADI- certified.
