Description

NDescription 0 0 The EVAPORATOR Mark II is included in the bottom of a solar still, floating on the o surface of the contaminated water. The EVAPORATOR Mark II is constructed by Z fusing three different layers, each with a specific purpose.
0 Layer 1: Consists of a fabric made from artificial black fibres, which are non-toxic, non-bleaching and do not shrink. This material is non-reflective and absorbs over o of the available infrared energy. The material also absorbs water through capillary 0 action and is able to stand rinsing/washing
NO
Layer 2: consist of a metal foil with a highly polished reflective surface. The purpose of this layer is to prevent the heat from Layer 1 spreading to the water under and by reflection to increase the temperature in Layer 1 by about 10 C.
Layer 3: Consists of a layer of plastic with air bubbles (bubble wrap). Its purpose is to keep the upper layers floating on the surface of the contaminated water and hence to stop the sun shining directly on the water surface.

Claims (2)

  1. 3. The solar still enhancement of Claim 1 whereby the second layer consists of oa metal foil with a highly reflective surface that reflects solar energy back onto layer 1.
  2. 4. The solar still enhancement of Claim 1 whereby the third layer consist of a layer of plastic containing air bubbles that allows the three fused layers to float on the surface of the contaminated water.
