Description
AUSTRALIA
Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT COT TEETHING RAIL The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me: Page 2 0 COT TEETHING RAIL 0 ct The cot teething rail is a safe, soothing alternative to harsh wood, hard plastic and metal cot surfaces. It's soft, rounded flexible surface protects the child from splinters, ingesting paint or vanish and it's raised bumps provide relief for sore gums.
The cot teething rail is a broad cover for the whole of the top M horizontal rail on the sides of the cot. It provides a biting surface for O both top and bottom teeth. It protects the whole of the top horizontal i o rail on the cot from teething marks, adding to the aesthetic life of the 0 cot.
The cot teething rail adds to the child's environment, not only with it's bright colours, but with attachment points for hanging toys, providing entertainment, and encouraging movement that in turn leads to is healthy muscle development.
The cot teething rail is PVC free, made from non-toxic food quality recyclable plastic and dyes and conforms to Australian Standards.
The rail is made to standard cot specifications in horizontal length and generally 9 or 10 cm in height, and can easily be cut by the consumer with sharp scissors to exactly fit individual cot sizes.
It is attached via snaps that are embedded in strapping usually a piece of grosgrain ribbon, that is inserted through oblong holes at different points along the teething rail allowing it to suit a number of different cots. The strapping usually grosgrain ribbon, has a metal slider that allows adjustment of its length so as to fit snuggly on different sized top horizontal cot rails.
There are oblong holes made at a number of intervals along the cot teething rail on both sides so as to give a number of different insertion options to the consumer. For safety and aesthetic reasons the strapping sits under the plastic Cot Teething Rail while having been thread through the front and back oblong holes, so that when placed on the top horizontal cot rail it sits inbetween the cot rail and the plastic Cot Teething Rail. Clear Instructions are provided.
Page 3 0The snaps that are used are rust proof and embedded in the 0 o strapping usually grosgrain ribbon, so as not to be a choking hazard. The oblong holes that have been pre punched conform to the cot Australian standards for hole sizes for use with cots.
The cot teething rail is removable, enabling easy cleaning or for discarding once the child has finished teething with no damage to the cot by either teeth marks or the Cot Teething Rail.
O The invention may be better understood with reference to the illustrations of embodiments of the invention which:- 0 O Figure 1 is a picture of the food grade plastic Cot Teething Rail showing the overall design, but without the strapping with the snap attachments. The number of oblong holes placed in the Cot Teething Rail for purpose of attachment would vary from cot size to cot size.
Figure 1 also shows the bumps 2 that would be on the surface for the purpose of massaging sore gums.
Figure 2 is a sectional view of the front of the Cot Teething Rail showing the placement of the oblong holes 1 in a vertical placement.
Horizontally they would be at different intervals for different orders/cots.
Figure 3 is a sectional view of the back of the Cot Teething Rail showing the placement of the oblong holes 1 in a vertical placement (only one). Horizontally they would coincide with the oblong holes that had been placed on the front of the Cot Teething Rail.
Figure 4 is a sectional view of the top of the Cot Teething Rail showing the bumps 2.
Figure 5 is the strapping usually grosgrain ribbon that has the studs embedded 3 and the metal adjuster 4 and metal connector 5 so as to enable safe, secure adjusting for fitting to the horizontal top cot rail.
