Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION FOR A STANDARD PATENT
(ORIGINAL)
Name of Applicant: Actual Inventor(s): Address for Service: Invention Title: KISSH INNOVATIONS PTY. LTD.
STUART HARVEY SANDERCOCK COWIE SUITE 8C, 50-54 ROBINSON STREET DANDENONG VIC 3175 LIGHT BULB EXCHANGER Details of Associated Provisional Application(s): No(s): Australian Provisional Application No. 2004902746 Filed: 24 t h May, 2004 The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to us: -1- Fc2005-O5-24,Z:\Letterskissh.ile.wpdI la- TITLE: LIGHT BULB EXCHANGER FIELD OF THE INVENTION This invention concerns inspection lamps which have a light bulb exchange facility.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION One apparatus aspect of the invention provides an inspection lamp comprising a torch having a body shell adapted to receive an extension handle.
2005-05-24,Z:\Specifications\kissh.cap.wpdI The body may have a spigot forming part of the body shell. The spigot may be detachable preferably by making the spigot a threaded extension of the torch body. In an alternative construction, the body is cuboid for accommodating a larger dry cell and the extension handle is received by a tubular cavity in the body.
The spigot may have projecting ribs or protrusions which assist in gripping the inserted end of the handle. The function of the spigot is twofold; to bring the torch close to the inspection site by utilising a handle which extends the users reach and to maintain spring pressure on the dry cells thereby ensuring a current path to the contacts for the lamp.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS One embodiment of the invention is now described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:- Figure 1 is a section through the torch body; Figure 2 is a side view of the bulb exchanger on a smaller scale than Figure 1.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION WITH RESPECT TO THE DRAWINGS Referring now to the drawings, body shell 2 is a tubular plastic moulding with a cup 4 at one end and a opening 6 at the opposite end for the insertion of two dry cell torch batteries 8. The cup has a peripheral flange 10 and the rim lying in advance of the flange has an exterior thread 12. Reflector 14 and bulb assembly 16 is located in the cup and in use is clamped by the bulb exchanger 18 shown in Figure 2. Slide switch 20 is mounted on the shell. The end of the shell near the opening is tapered and has an exterior thread 22.
The spigot 24 is a separate moulding with a skirt 26 and end wall 28 which from which a coil compression spring 30 extends. The mouth of the spigot has an interior thread 32 of matching taper to the extension thread 22. The skirt has longitudinal ribs 34 which grip the end of the handle.
2005-0524,Z:\Speciications sh.capwpd,2 -3- The bulb exchanger 18 is a thin-walled transparent moulding which has fingers 36 for allowing flexure when pushed into contact with a light bulb 38. An annular portion has an internal thread 42 which mates with the exterior thread 12 and seats against flange The exchanger is moulded in clear pvc to allow reflected light to spread. Lens 44 encloses the reflector 14 and bulb assembly 16.
In use the bulb exchanger may be screwed permanently to the torch and the device may be used as a torch. When the user wishes to inspect a hole or the cavity in a building, for example a cavity wall, the exchanger is detached and the handle is inserted to give the desired reach. If the bulb exchanger is required, the exchange is screwed on and the handle is inserted. The handle permits the user to reach a ceiling fitting and engage a light bulb with sufficient force to detach it from its fitting and insert a replacement. If the replacement is necessary in a basement with only one light, the torch illuminates the operation.
We have found the advantages of the above embodiment to be that the device functions as a torch, an inspection light and a light bulb exchanger.
It is to be understood that the word "comprising" as used throughout the specification is to be interpreted in its inclusive form, ie. use of the word "comprising" does not exclude the addition of other elements.
It is to be understood that various modifications of and/or additions to the invention can be made without departing from the basic nature of the invention. These modifications and/or additions are therefore considered to fall within the scope of the invention.

Claims (9)
1. An inspection lamp comprising a torch having a body shell adapted to receive an extension handle.
2. An inspection lamp as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the body has a spigot forming part of the body shell.
3. An inspection lamp as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the spigot is removably attached to the body.
4. An inspection lamp as claimed in Claim 2 or 3, wherein the spigot is capable of gripping the end of a brown handle.
5. An inspection lamp as claimed in any one of Claims 1-4, wherein the body shell surrounding the torch lamp and reflector receives a screw on receptacle capable of gripping a light bulb when the light bulb is pushed into the receptacle and releasing the bulb when the receptacle is pulled away from the bulb.
6. An inspection lamp as claimed in Claim 5, wherein the receptacle has a tapered cross-section in order to transmit fitting pressure to the crown of the bulb.
7. An inspection lamp as claimed in Claim 5 or 6, wherein the receptacle is transparent.
8. An inspection lamp as claimed in any one of Claims 5-7, wherein the body is tubular for accommodating dry cells and the spigot and body coaxially overlap, whereby attachment of the spigot to the body compresses a spring which lodges the dry cells toward the torch lamp.
9. An inspection lamp as claimed in Claim wherein the receptacle houses a lens for the torch.
