Description

18-10-2005 12:43 FROM-CRIME MANAGEMENT UNIT +60239239 T-622 P-002/005 F-824 IMPROVED MOTORCYCLE CARRYING DEVICE (named: EziMoTow)
AUSTRALIA
Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT IMPROVED MOTORCYCLE CARRYING DEVICE (named: EziMoTow) The following statement is a full description of the invention, including the best method of performing it known to me.
1 COMS ID No: SBMI-01765367 Received by IP Australia: Time 11:33 Date 2005-10-18 18-10-2005 12:43 FROM-CRIME MANAGEMENT UNIT +60239239 T-622 P.003/005 F-824 IMPROVED MOTORCYCLE CARRYING DEVICE (named: EzitoTow) 1. The most common way of transporting motorcycles has been by securing them via ropes, tie-downs or straps to a trailer or vehicle mounted carrier. This invention improves upon all these methods by way of attaching the carrier (EziMoTow) to the tow bar receiver of a suitable vehicle. Metal rods are then used to secure the motorcycle via its foot pegs to the carrier. In doing this, no loading (compression forces) are incurred upon the suspension of the motorcycle.
2- The device comprises of two 'bodies' connected by lower and upper parallel arms. To operate the unit the carrier is firstly attached to the vehicle via the tow bar receiver. The carrier is then lowered into position via a hydraulic jack. The motorcycle is then positioned onto the carrier and secured to it by the metal rods. The jack (which is connected to the lower arms via a jack carrier) is then extended which causes the lower parallel arms to raise and in doing so raises the carrying unit. By using upper and lower parallel lifting arms, the carrying unit is raised into position, keeping the attached motorcycle secure and positioned at the rear of the vehicle, where it is carried laterally. The unit is then secured by a safety bolt to prevent the unit from lowering whilst in transit.
3. The invention may be better understood in reference to the figures below: 4. Figure b 'EziMoTow' in lowered position. This figure shows a side view of the device in its lowered position. In this position the motorcycle is wheeled over the carrier and secured with specifically shaped metal rods.
Figure 2: 'EziMoTow" in raised position. Side view of the device in the raised position. This is the position the device is in when transporting a motorcycle.
6. Figure 3: 'EziMoTow' receiver body. This is a side view of the body piece stripped of all other components. This piece is inserted into the vehicle's tow bar receiver.
7. Figure 4 'EziMoTow' carrier body. This is the side view of the carrier body, stripped of all other components.
8. Figure 5: 'EziMoTow' carrier body. This is the top view of the carrier body. The motorcycle is secured to this carrier with the metal rods inserted through the holes shown.
2 COMS ID No: SBMI-01765367 Received by IP Australia: Time 11:33 Date 2005-10-18 18-10-2005 12:43 FROM-CRIME MANAGEMENT UNIT +60239239 T2 P oF T-622 P.004/005 F-824 IMPROVED MOTORCYCLE CARRYING DEVICE (named: EziMoTaw) 9. Figure 6: TziMoTow' components. This figure shows the components and dimensions that are used to construct the EziMoTow device.
The device is constructed from the following materials: i) Body material 50mm x 50mm x 4mm steel.
ii) Upper/Lower arms, locking plate, jack carrier all Laser cut steel.
11. The generation of friction between the moving components is minimised by the use of nylon washers and nylon spacers.
