Description

Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT COIN OPERATED and SAVING CALENDAR The following statement is a full description of the invention, including the best method of performing it known to me.
COIN OPERATED and SAVING CALENDAR Previous calendars have been mainly two dimensional printed items which are just read and require no input from the user.
This invention requires the user to insert a coin into it each day and at the start of each month so that the calendar shows the correct date. This user input will teach the user the sequence of the months of the year and how many days in the month.
The coins depicting the date of the month are at the end of each month released from their cavity into a containing area where they are saved until the end of the year thus saving money.
A coin operated and saving calendar in accordance with this invention comprises slots through which coins are passed into cavities where the inserted coins will stack up on edge in appropriate position thus emphasising symbols which will indicate a date or month, being released into a storage or saving container at the bottom of the cavity.
The invention has a clear cover on the front Fig 3 1 and possibly on the back of the coin cavities Fig 3 3&4 with the numbers of the date of the month and months of the year with the number of days in each month) depicted on the clear covers, in the appropriate positions so that the insertion of coins Fig 1 3 will show the successive date in the correct order as shown in Figure. 1.
The main body of the invention can be constructed from any ridged material such as wood, plastic, acrylic or metal with covers for the front or front and back of the coin cavities and or the coin storage container being made of a transparent material such as glass or acrylic.
2 The invention is operated by inserting coins into the entry slot to the month of the year cavity Fig 3 3 until the correct month is depicted, then inserting coins into the date of the month slot until the correct date is depicted. Then each day inserting one coin into the date of the month slot to change the date of the calendar. Then at the end of that month the sliding rod Fig 3 5 Fig 1 2 is partially removed allowing the "date of the month coins "to fall onto the compound angle deflector Fig 1 5 Fig 3 6 thus spreading them throughout the coin storage container (Fig 2 1 The slide is then returned to the fully inserted position. To start the next month a coin is inserted into the months slot and a coin is inserted into the date of the month slot which will roll into position 'one' thus depicting the 1st. day of the month.
This cycle of changing the date and month is continued until the end of the year when both sliding rods Fig 3 5 2 are removed and all coins fall into the coin storage container Fig 2 1 If this calendar is operated in this manner for a full year, 377 coins will be saved in the coin storage area which can be accessed through a removable section.
The removable sliding rods Fig 3 2 5 at present are made of mild steel which absorbs the energy of the coins when they drop into the coin cavity Fig 3 4 thus preventing the coin from bouncing into an incorrect position. Other materials could also be used for this sliding rod.
The invention may be better understood with reference to the illustrations of embodiments of the invention. Figures 1 and 2 show a front and end elevation of the invention and figure 3 shows an exploded view of the invention with sliding rods, main body, clear coin cover and coin storage area removed.
Claims (4)
1. A coin operated and saving calendar having slots through which coins are passed into cavities where the inserted coins will stack up on edge in appropriate positions thus emphasising symbols which will indicate a date or month before, at the end of each month, being released into a storage or saving container at the bottom of the cavity.
2. A coin operated and saving calendar as claimed in claim 1. wherein a sliding rod at the bottom of the coin cavities which is made of metal or another material which deadens the bounce of the coins as they strike it after being inserted into the calendar.
3. A coin operated and saving calendar according to any claims 1 and 2 wherein the sliding rod and bottom of the coin cavity is at an angle to the horizontal causing the coins to roll to one side and stack on the coins of the second and subsequent rows of the stack to roll across the already stacked coins to the same side as the first coin inserted.
4. A coin operated and saving calendar according to any of one of the claims 1-3, wherein the right and left hand sides of the "date of the month" coin cavity are at an angle to the perpendicular ensuring the coins of the second, third and consequent rows stack on top of the coins of the lower rows and do not fall into the depression formed between two coins of the previous row. A coin operated and saving calendar substantially as herein before described with reference to figures 1-3 of the accompanying drawings. Gary Smith. Peter Robert Smith Date. 09-09-2005
