Description

Description This invention relates to a system for easily creating assessment questions for a web based learning environment from an electronic document.
Many web based learning systems offer an unintuitive interface or software plug-ins that make creating assessment pieces consisting of multiple questions difficult. These systems are difficult to use because they provide cumbersome interfaces or require the user to learn how to use a new piece of software. Additionally, some learning systems require additional software be installed to create HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) assessment. Additional software can cause problems security risks, platform dependencies, software maintenance issues).
These aforementioned problems are overcome by the present invention. This inventions allows HTML assessment to be created directly from an electronic document that uses specific elements using the form start and end elements in Microsoft(R) Word). The electronic document created can then be uploaded directly into the document conversion system. This invention supports electronic documents created in software packages like Microsoft(R) Word. Microsoft(R) Word has become the de facto standard for document creation and hence, is commonly used by individuals likely to be creating HTML assessment with multiple questions.
No additional software is required on the user's computer who is creating the assessment apart from their document editing software and web browser.
The steps required to create the HTML assessment from an electronic document using the present invention are: 1.creating an electronic document that uses specific elements to designate questions and model answers; 2.uploading the electronic document to the system; 3.the system automatically converts the electronic document into individual questions that can be used by learners to submit answers to the questions using a web browser.
Following the creation of the HTML assessment questions, a web based learning system can use traditional methods to collect a learners answer to a question and display the learner's answers to an assessor for marking.
