Description

AUSTRALIA
Patent Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT HEAT AND SERVE COLLAR The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me: HEAT AND SERVE COLLAR There are many food products served hot with a sauce or topping in the foodservice industry and in the home. This invention has been designed to provide a simple and convenient way of providing a portion controlled product with a sauce or topping, that is a one step heat and serve process with minimum waste. Using the heat and serve collar, the product can be made (cooked or formed), packaged, stored, transported, reheated and served onto a plate using a single container.
A collar in accordance with this invention comprises a collar which may be cylindrical or another shape such as square or triangle, which is formed inside or outside an appropriate mould with the ends overlapping and glued or sealed with a method that firmly contains contents during the cooking, storage, transportation and reheating process but is convenient for the customer to open when serving.
The heat and serve collar is preferably made from cardboard with an inner coating of heatproof food grade plastic or from flexible heatproof food grade plastic but other flexible food grade heatproof materials can be used.
Food products such as puddings or terrines may be cooked or formed in the collar and then have a sauce or topping placed on top of the product within the collar. The collar with contents can then be packed in an appropriate container such as a box or sealed in plastic for storage, transportation and sale.
To use the product it can either be heated in a microwave or oven while in the collar and then placed on a serving plate where the collar is opened by tearing or cutting down the join and removed allowing the heated sauce or topping to flow down over the product. Alternatively the product in the collar may be placed onto a serving plate then open and remove the collar by tearing or cutting down the join and heating the product in a microwave or oven allowing the sauce or topping to flow down over the product whilst heating.
The invention may be better understood with reference to the illustrations (orthographic drawings) of embodiments of the invention which: Figure 1 is a three-quarter view drawing of an open heat and seal collar showing the overlap and glued seal.
Figure 2 is a three-quarter view drawing of a sealed heat and serve collar ready for use.
Figures 3B and 4A show the collar being opened ready for use.
Figures 3C and 4B show the collar being removed Figures 3A and 4C show the product placed on a plate and heated and sauced.
Figures 3D and 4D show the product ready to eat.
