Description

Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT Applicant: Ya-Chu HSIAO Invention Title: TWISTABLE STEPPING EXERCISER The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me: TWISTABLE STEPPING EXERCISER The present invention relates to a stepping exerciser wherein the two pedals are pivotable about the pivot points in horizontal directions so that the user may twist his or her body during using the exerciser.
SA conventional stepping exerciser 50 is disclosed in Fig. 7 and generally 0 includes a base 51 with a post 52 extending upward therefrom and two pedals 53, 54 Sare pivotably connected to two extensions extending form the post 52. Two Spneumatic cylinders 55 are respectively connected between two respective pedals 53, 54 and the base 51 so that the two pedals 53, 54 can be pivoted in vertical direction up and down alternatively. The two cylinders 55 provide suitable resistance to prevent the pedals 53, 54 from suddenly dropping and hitting the floor. The two pedals 53, 54 are arranged to be in parallel with each other and the user can only step down the pedals 53, 54 in vertical direction. This means that the user's feet are exercised by stepping up and down the pedals 53, 54 and the user feel boring after a short period of time of use. Besides, the up-and-down movement of the pedals 53, 54 can only exercise certain parts of muscles on feet and the body is not exercised.
The present invention intends to provide a stepping exerciser wherein the two pedals are pivotable about two tubes arranged in a V-shaped orientation so that the peals are allowed to be pivoted in horizontal directions to allow the user to twist his or her body during using the exerciser.
O The present invention relates to a stepping exerciser that comprises a base and a post extends from the base. Two tubes extend from the post at an angle and are located as a V-shaped arrangement. Two pedals each have a mounting member connected to a front end thereof and the two respective mounting members are pivotably mounted to the two tubes. Two cylinders are respectively connected a between the two pedals and the base. Each cylinder has a U-shaped connection a member connected to a first end thereof and the two respective U-shaped connection members are respectively pivotably connected to two support members on the base so that the two U-shaped connection members are pivotable in vertical direction relative to the support members. The first end of each cylinder is pivotably connected between two side portions of the corresponding U-shaped connection member and is capable of pivoting in horizontal direction. An idle wheel is connected to the post and a cable reeves through a periphery of the idle wheel. Two ends of the cable are respectively fixed to the two pedals.
The present invention will become more obvious from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings which show, for purposes of illustration only, a preferred embodiment in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view to show the stepping exerciser of the present invention; Fig. 2 is an exploded view to show the stepping exerciser of the present invention; O Fig. 3 is a top view to show that the two pedals are swung in horizontal direction, and SFig. 4 shows the cylinder is pivoted in horizontal directions relative to the connection member; "Fig. 5 is a side view to show the two pedals are moved up and down alternatively; SFig. 6 shows the connection member together with the cylinder are pivoted in vertical directions relative to the support member on the base, and Fig. 7 shows a conventional stepping exerciser.
Referring to Figs. 1 to 6, the stepping exerciser of the present invention comprises an I-shaped base 10 which is composed of two parallel rods 11 and a main rod 12 that is perpendicularly connected between the two parallel rods 11. One of the two parallel rods 11 has an upright post 15 and two tubes 151, 152 extend from the post 15 at an angle and are located as a V-shaped arrangement.
Two pedals 20, 30 each have a mounting member 21/31 connected to a front end thereof and the two respective mounting members 21, 31 are pivotably mounted to the two tubes 151, 152 so that the two mounting members 21, 31 are pivotable about two respective axes of the two tubes 151, 152. Each of the mounting members 21, 31 has a plate 22/32 extending radially outward therefrom.
Two cylinders 24, 34 are respectively connected between the two pedals 151, 152 and the base 10. Each cylinder 24/34 has a U-shaped connection member connected to a first end thereof and the two respective U-shaped connection members 40 are respectively pivotably connected to two support members 13, 14 on S one of the two parallel rods 11 of the base 10. Each of the U-shaped connection members 40 is composed of a connection portion 41 and two side portions between which a receiving space is defined. The first end of each of the cylinders 24, 34 are Sinserted in the receiving space and a pin extends through two holes 42 defined in the Stwo side portions of the U-shaped connection member 40 so that the first end of the cylinder 24/34 can be pivoted in horizontal directions relative to the U-shaped connection member 40 as shown in Fig. 4. Each of the connection members Sfurther has a passage 43 defined through the connection portion 41 between the two side portions. The connection portion 41 is pivotably connected to the support member 13/14 corresponding thereto by a pin. By this connection, the two U-shaped connection members 40 are pivotable in vertical directions relative to the support members 13, 14 as shown in Fig. 6.
An idle wheel 16 is connected to the post 15 and a cable 17 reeves through a groove in a periphery of the idle wheel 16 and two ends of the cable 17 are respectively fixed to the two plates 22, 32 on the two mounting members 21, 31.
As shown in Fig. 3, when stepping the peal 20 downward, the mounting member 21 is pivoted about the tube 151 and swings outward. The plate 22 on the mounting member 21 pulls the cable 17 which pulls the other plate 32 on the mounting member 31 to swing the pedal 30 inward. The cylinders 24, 34 allow the two pedals 20, 30 to be moved up and down alternatively with a resistance. By this way, the two pedals 20, 30 are pivoted in horizontal directions and the user's body twists during using the stepping exerciser.
Throughout this specification and the claims which follow, unless the context requires otherwise, the word "comprise" and variations such as "comprises" and "comprising", will be understood to imply the inclusion of a stated integer or step or group of integers or steps but not the exclusion of any other integer or step or group of integers or steps.
While we have shown and described the embodiment in accordance with the present invention, it should be clear to those skilled in the art that further embodiments may be made without departing from the scope of the present invention.
