Description

AUSTRALIA
Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT SCOOTER WITH WHEELED SEAT The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me: o SCOOTER WITH WHEELED SEAT Many mobility scooters have differential gearbox for the two rear drive wheels. The differential gearbox is normally expensive and differential drive wheels may loss driving torque while turning. Or a r- foot pedal tricycle has one rear drive wheel on one side and a rear 2 wheel on other side, its turning performance is poor when turning Stowards the rear drive wheel side, the tricycle frame and the front S steering wheel will handle a twist torque while pedalling.
A scooter with wheeled seat in accordance with this invention comprises a scooter, which has only one rear drive wheel and at least one front steering wheel and a seat frame with two rear side wheels, and the seat frame is joint to the scooter frame with a pivot, the pivot is in between the front steering wheel and the rear drive wheel, the rear drive wheel is nearly in the middle point of the two rear side wheels. The axles of three rear wheels are arranged for the three contact points of the three rear wheels and the flat floor to be nearly in a same line, and the axle of the rear drive wheel is nearly in parallel with the axles of the two rear side wheels and the axis of the pivot.
The scooter with wheeled seat is like a bicycle or a two wheels scooter with a special wheeled seat and the seat frame is support by the pivot and the two rear side wheels. So the scooter with wheeled seat may stand alone like a tricycle. A scooter with two front steering wheels and the wheeled seat can be more stable.
The wheel suspension is useful for the comfort driving of the scooter with wheeled seat. The wheeled seat may have one or more small anti-tip wheels in the back for even safer driving. The scooter with wheeled seat is equivalent to a front wheel drive scooter, so it is safer comparing with an ordinary three or four wheels scooter.
2 o The three rear wheels may be different in size. Ideally the contact S points of the three rear wheels with flat floor are required in a same line, so the three wheels may turn around a same turning centre.
The structure is not ideal while turning on uneven surface, as the 0 contact points of the three rear wheels with ground may be not in a 0 same line. The turning and driving capability is better as the rear Sdrive wheel is always support on the ground.
S This invention may provide people a foot pedal scooter as a safer traffic tool and/or an exercise apparatus with better performance on driving and turning.
This invention may save the expensive differential gearbox for a motorized scooter and improve the driving and turning performance of the scooter.
The invention may be better understood with reference to the illustrations of embodiments of the invention which:- Figure 1 is an elevation of a scooter with wheeled seat on uneven ground.
Figure 2 is an elevation of a scooter with wheeled seat on flat ground.
Figure 3 is a top view of a scooter with wheeled seat. And the seat is removed.
A scooter with wheeled seat, illustrate in figure 1, 2 and 3, has a front steering wheel 1 and a rear drive wheel 3, and a seat frame joint to the scooter frame 4 with a pivot 6. The seat frame 5 has two rear side wheels 2. The seat 7 is support by the seat frame 5. The moving range of the seat frame 5 is limit with a limiter 8. The limiter 8 may be a fixed stopper or a flexible buffer.

Claims (4)

1. A scooter, which has only one rear drive wheel and at least one Nfront steering wheel, has a seat with two rear side wheels on its seat frame, and the seat frame is joint to the scooter frame with a pivot, the pivot is in between the front steering wheel and the rear 2 drive wheel, the rear drive wheel is nearly in the middle point of the two rear side wheels, the axles of the three rear wheels are arranged for the three contact points of the three rear wheels and the flat floor to be nearly in a same line, and the axle of the rear drive wheel is nearly in parallel with the axles of the two rear side wheels and the axis of the pivot, and the seat frame with the seat is support by the pivot and the two rear side wheels.
2. A scooter as claimed in claim 1 use a motor or manpower or both as power source, the motor can be either an electric motor or a combustion engine, the manpower may be the driver himself.
3. A scooter as claimed in claim 1 has a seat with two rear side wheels on the seat frame and one or more anti-tip wheel on the seat frame in back of the two rear side wheels.
4. A scooter as claimed in claim 1 has a position limiter, which can be a fixed stopper or a flexible buffer, to limit the moving range of the seat frame. A scooter substantially as herein before described with reference to the description and/or the accompanying drawings. DONGNING ZHANG 21 December 2004
