Description

Editorial Note for 2004100945 The Description contains 7 pages including the title page and the last page which is blank.
Australia Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT DIAMOND POD The following statement is a full description of the invention, including the best method of performing it known to me.
o Diamond Pod What is a diamond pod? It is a precious metal filigree outer pod or cage of octahedral shape with a free moving laser inscribed octahedral natural diamond crystal inside and an annual feature on the outside. It is presented in a decorative box complete with a certificate of authenticity. It is not an item of jewellery in its own right however designed to be easily incorporated into jewellery items by a person with minimal jewellery making skills.
The need for access to diamond crystal Many people believe natural gemstone crystals including diamonds have healing energies and powers. Examples of this can be viewed at the following web pages or by performing a search for diamond crystals using a popular search engine such as google or yahoo.
www.crystalmaster.com, www.crystalinks.com/crystal healina.html www. www.astrologyzine.com/crystal-7.shtml#Diamond Many people have an interest in natural gemstone crystals including diamond crystals due to their interest and knowledge of Gemmology. These people include Gemmologists Jewellers Gem cutters Rock collectors Many people will have an interest in purchasing a diamond pod due to its uniqueness and enhanced long term value aspects.
Collectors Investors Shoppers 0 z Difficulties fulfilling this need The general reluctance of diamond producers to sell diamond rough in Australia in an effort to protect the security of the industry.
SRisks to security include Diamond rough being traded from countries which fall outside the Kimberly agreement. (Blood Diamonds) Diamond rough being illegally smuggled or mined from the existing Australian operations.
Diamond rough being illegally imported Difficulty in processing natural diamond crystal into jewellery due to The natural cubic or octahedral shape of a natural diamond crystal making it difficult to set into jewellery.
Usually a top is glued on to fit a chain or jump ring however due to the high monitory value of diamond crystal this is considered a high risk.
End result People who have an interest or need in natural diamond crystal are being denied access to this material in Australia even though Australia is one of the worlds largest producers of this material.
0 z Why the diamond pod is useful, fulfills the above needs and is new.
People who have an interest in natural diamond crystals for their healing and energy potential will have easy access to this in the form of a diamond I pod. It provides a natural diamond crystal in a secure pod or cage like structure which can be easily converted into a piece of jewellery and worn next to the skin. The design of the outer pod allows a secure way of protecting the diamond crystal while the filigree design allows any potential energies to easily pass through to the wearer. At present these people have no easy access to diamond crystal.
People who have an interest in diamond crystals as a result in their interest in gemology will appreciate its gemmologically correct outer shape, they will appreciate how the filigree pattern reflects the growth structure of diamond and they will appreciate the natural octahedral diamond crystal inside. They will be motivated to purchase a diamond pod due to its uniqueness and the fact that nothing like it presently exists.
Investors, collectors, and shoppers will be interested in purchasing a diamond pod due to its enhanced long term value expectations brought about by the combination of the annual feature, certificate of authenticity, unique number laser inscribed into the surface of the diamond crystal and the presentation package incorporating all of the above. At present there is no such combination of product available featuring natural diamond crystal.
People who are concerned with the securitiy issues revolving around the supply of diamond rough to the general public will find that the diamond pod solves those issues. The fact that a unique number is laser inscribed into the surface of the diamond crystal and that a matching certificate of authenticity is supplied with the diamond crystal ensures that the diamond crystal was legally purchased and their can be no mistake or misunderstanding. Although this process is common for cut diamonds it has never been done with diamond rough or diamond crystals.
Components of a diamond pod? 1 Octahedral filigree outer pod or cage with the following features. Fig 1 Fig 2 9Z Octahedral shape similar to a perfectly formed diamond crystal Filigree triangular pattern reflecting a growth feature of diamond called trigons which are representative of the actual growth structure of diamond crystal. This can be confirmed by any qualified gemologist.
The filigree pattern of the outer pod or cage is of a size which prevents the natural diamond crystal inside from falling through the spaces.
The outer pod or cage is manufactured in such a way to make the removal of the natural diamond crystal inside impossible without damage.
Size generally accepted as suitable for processing into items of jewellery.
The top and bottom octahedral points have a space to allow the easy fitting of jump rings, cord, chain, drops, and tassles allowing easy conversion to jewellery by people with minimal jewellery making skills.
2 Diamond crystal with the following features. Fig 3 Fig 4 Australian or legal origin Laser inscribed with a unique number Medium to good natural octahedral crystal shape 3 Annual Feature with the following features Fig 2 Made of precious metal Fitted to the outer surface of the outer pod or cage Covering less than 20% of the surface area of the outer pod or cage The design of the feature will change annually, with each design consistently available for a full 12months however not available after this 12 month period except on the second hand market. There will only be one current design at any one time.
4 Certificate of Authenticity with the following features Certificate will display the same unique number ad laser inscribed on the corresponding natural diamond crystal.
Certificate will be laminated to avoid tampering.
Each certificate will be individually signed by a registered member of the National Council of Jewellery Valuers NCJV.
The certificate will not state a monetary value, nor detailed individual description of the diamond crystal but rather a general description and a statement that it is natural diamond, the shape is a natural diamond crystal shape and the diamonds origin.
Presentation and packaging with the following features A decorative box or packaging which allows the diamond pod and the certificate to be easily supplied and stored together.
Manufacture in order of process
O
The outer pod or cage is cast in two halves and the annual feature is cast separately out of precious metal.
The diamond is laser inscribed with a unique number The diamond is placed into the centre of the two halves of the outer pod or cage and they are soldered together allowing the diamond to move freely around inside however making it impossible to remove the diamond Ocrystal without damage to the outer pod or cage.
The annual feature is then soldered to the outside of the pod or cage.
The piece is polished and cleaned The certificate is processed and the qualified valuer will ensure that the laser inscribed number on the diamond crystal matches the number on the certificate before signing and laminating.
The diamond pod and the corresponding certification of authenticity are placed together into the presentation box and offered for sale.
Summery The diamond pod is inventive and innovative because there is a proven need from many different people groups and there has been no item to fill this need until the development of this diamond pod.
