Description
AUSTRALIA
Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT ADJUSTABLE CLAMP HOUSING (TO FIT ATTACHMENTS TO POWER TOOLS) The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method known to me of describing its unique qualities, its design and construction.
ADJUSTABLE CLAMP HOUSING I have one specific claim which will describe in detail the construction and design features of the above housing.
The housing could be described as a dual diameter, multi-split, universally adjustable clamped housing to attach all types of attachments to power drills which have a round parallel gear box.
The clamp tube (Fig. 2 and Fig. 4 No. 2) is specifically machined with a bore size to suit the three standard gear box diameters now generally used in all power drills.
The three models are: Electric power drills, 43mm diameter Air drills, 41.75mm diameter Air drills, 43.75mm diameter Therefore, three specific models covering all electric and air drills must be produced.
Gear box diameters vary from brand to brand up to approximately 1 mm difference in diameter.
Our adjustable clamp housing will flex and bend until it fits correctly the parallel diameter of the power drill gear box, this being possible with the use of a heavy duty circular clamp as shown in Photo 1.
The adjustable clamp housing was designed and developed to be used with our Ezi-Shear metal cutting shear head, liP 2002 100745.
We now realise it has a much wider appeal to all types and sizes of power drills and attachments.
The claim defining the invention is as follows.
Claims (4)
1. The body of the adjustable clamp housing is manufactured from two only pieces of mild steel pipe of different diameters.
2. The main body tube (Fig. 2 No. 1) has a size of 60mm OlD x 54mm I/D x approximately 37mm length (this can vary).
3. Clamp tube (Fig. 2 No. 2) has an outside diameter of 48mm O/D x
41.5mm I/D x 38mm length (approximately). 4. The two tubes Nos. 1 and 2 are welded to each other as shown in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 with the clamp tube extending inside the main body tube No. 1 by 4mm (Fig. 2 No. 3 and Fig. 4 No. 4). 5. This produces a very strong structure for welding. 6. The two tubes are MIG welded (Fig. 1) to a maximum of 300 in diameter, exactly central to each other, leaving two circular slots at 1800 to each other, these slots being 3mm wide and 600 each in circumference (Fig. 1 No. 14 and Fig. 3- No. 13). 7. The clamp tube is machined inside to the required diameter of the three models, that is, 43 41.75 or 43.75mm diameter (Fig. 4 No. 8. The outside of the clamp tube is machined to a diameter no greater than 1.5mm wall thickness (Fig. 4 No. 6). 9. The outside diameter of the main body tube and both ends of the assembly are machined and faced (Fig. 4 No. Both 300 welds are machined so that they blend in with both outside machined diameters (Fig. 2 No. 7). 11. Two slots are now cut into the clamp housing (Fig. 2 No. 8) at 1800 to each other. These slots continue into the main body tube to a depth of 8mm (approximately) (Fig. 2 No. 9). 12. Two additional slots are cut at 1800 to each other and at 900 to the original slots (paragraph 11). 13. The two slots do not dissect the welding structure and are approximately 800 only of the full length of the clamp tube (Fig. 4 No. n Alfred G er 13/06/2004
