Description
Patent draft Title Display mounting clips for spherical or other shaped objects (Sports balls etc) Field of the invention This invention relates to a means to mount a spherical or other shaped object for display purposes, for example items such as sports balls, in vertical, horizontal, or other angled format.
Background of the invention The concept developed from the inventor having to mount spherical and other shaped items when preparing examples for trade shows, and finding no such items on the market, only ad hoc methods used by various trades.
For an example, a picture framer might cut a circular hole (or other shape) into a mat board backing board substrate somewhat smaller in diameter to the item, the item then partially rests into the hole and is stitched to the backing through existing lacing, or enveloped with tulle material to hold the item in place.
These are time consuming, expensive, and possibly not neat methods of fixing.
Another method -may have been to screw the item directly through the backing boards, quick and easy, but not a good method when dealing with items of a collectable or valuable nature.
Object of the invention To enable the mounting of spherical and other shaped item, to a backing or other surface for display purposes.
Disclosure of the invention detail The invention is a clip type apparatus with 2 or more arms that hold an object, of spherical or other shape.
The clip arms extend around the item being mounted, with a countersunk fixing hole at a central point at the centre of the clip back, to mount the clip and item to a backing or wall.
There may be more than one fixing hole depending on shape and size of the item to be mounted.
For example a clip for a football may have 2 or 4 holes for stability, and a clip for a basketball may have 3 or 4 holes in a pattern to enable stability of the mounting device.
The clips are fixed firmly to a backing or mounting surface, and the item to be displayed is then placed in the mounting clip by carefully 'rolling' the item into the clip arm configuration and aligning as desired.
The clips are made of a material type and thickness with enough flexibility and return 'spring' to hold the objects firmly in place.
The material can be made of a clear or coloured transparent or opaque acrylic (otherwise known as plexi, polycarb, etc), or other suitably formable material such as a flat spring steel or spring steel wire framework, or any other suitable material in a similar shape.
The mounting clips can be made by injection moulding, in one or more pieces then joined, -or by forming the shape required by heating the material and forming over or inside a mould, or by forming the shape required under direct heat in or on a mould, or by methods used to form spring steel material.

Claims (4)
1. A clip to mount a spherical or other shaped object, comprising 2 or more arms to hold an item in place, as shown in the accompanying drawings of examples.
2. With one or more arms held open, the ball is placed onto the other arm(s), and carefully rolled into place in the clip and adjusted as required.
3. Utilises one or more fixing holes to mount the clip to a backing, wall, or other substrate forming a display, as shown in drawing.
