Description

Description The innovation embodies means to carry and retain steel welding electrodes.
Welding electrodes are typically supplied in soft cardboard or plastic packing.
Once opened the electrodes are invariably carried to the job in the open packet and are vulnerable to damage and spillage. Lying horizontal they are also vulnerable to damage from spills such as water, oil or cutting compounds in the workshop environment.
The present innovation provides a carrying device that prefers to remain upright and retains the steel welding electrodes with a retaining force somewhat greater than gravity, so that should the container be in a horizontal or below horizontal attitude the electrodes tend to be retained rather than spilled.
Further, the carrying device embodies means to fix it to a vertical steel surface and means to wear the device on the body. A further innovation provides a magnetic or other retention means on the device to hold spent welding electrodes for later disposal. The above innovations can be effected by the following means: A cylindrical (or other shape) plastic, aluminium or other material container in general shorter than typical welding electrodes and having in its base a magnetic or other means to ensure that it stands upright on a horizontal steel surface. Drawing WMQ1 illustrates a typical embodiment. A magnetic or other means is also employed to secure the device on a vertical steel surface.
This is illustrated in drawing WMQ2.
A further magnetic or other retention means forms part of the device to hold spent electrodes for later disposal as drawing WMQ3.
A feature of the innovation is that the magnetic fixtdure in the base of the device serves to both clamp the device to a horizontal steel surface below and to retain welding electrodes above.
COMS ID No: SMBI-00693830 Received by IP Australia: Time 10:19 Date 2004-04-02 Further, it is known that steel rods placed within a uniform magnetic field will become magnetically induced with like polarity and therefore tend to repel each other. The present device makes use of this known effect to retain welding electrodes in an orderly arrangement within the cylinder. This is illustrated in Drawing WMQ4.
In addition a strap or belt forms part of the innovation, so that the device can be worn by a user. Illustrated in Drawing 2 COMS ID No: SMBI-00693830 Received by IP Australia: Time 10:19 Date 2004-04-02

Claims (4)

1. A cylindrical or other shaped container having at the base of the container or elsewhere within the container a magnetic means to exert holding force on the ends or other points of attachment of welding electrodes or other steel rods or barn placed within the container.
2. A cylindrical or other shaped container having within its enclosure or external to its enclosure and at its base a magnetic means to secure it in upright position to steel surfaces.
3. A cylindrical or other shaped container having at the base of the container or elsewhere within the container a magnetic means to exert holding force on welding electrodes or other steel rods or bars such that the electrodes rods or bars tend to arrange themselves in an order within and by the influence of the magnetic field.
4. A cylindrical or other shaped container for welding electrodes having a magnetic means to secure it to vertical steel surfaces. A cylindrical or other shaped container for welding electrodes having a magnetic means of retaining spent welding electrode ends. 3 COMS ID No: SMBI-00693830 Received by IP Australia: Time 10:19 Date 2004-04-02
