Our Ref: 705279 POF Code: 20412/106282 The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to applicant(s): -1- Pallet-like base, particularly for transport and storage containers for liquids The invention concerns pallet-like bases, particularly for transport and storage containers for liquids, that are fitted with a plastic inner container having a closable filler socket and a discharge socket for the connection of a draining fitting as well as an outer container from a metal grate or sheet metal, while the metal bases have a bottom to support the inner container as well as corner and central feet that are mounted on a foot frame and on which the bottom of the base as well as the outer jacket of the inner container are fastened (DE 4206 945 C1).
The above discussion of background art is included to explain the context of the present invention. It is not to be taken as an admission that any of the documents or other material referred to was published, known or part of the common general knowledge in Australia at the priority date of any one of the claims of this specification.
According to one aspect the present invention provides a pallet-like support base especially for shipping and storage containers for liquids which are equipped with a plastic inner container with a closable filler connection and a drain connection for connection of a drain fitting and with an outer jacket consisting of a metal cage or sheet metal, the metal support base including a bottom for supporting the inner container and corner and middle feet mounted on a base frame and on which the bottom of the support base and the outer jacket of the inner container are mounted; wherein the corner feet of the support base consist of a shell plate in which inwardly directed reinforcing beads are formed running vertically towards upper and lower support edges of the shell plate along the entire height of the shell plate.
WNJm7527MAmended Sped 1 February P2006.doc When compared with known bases, used mostly for containers for liquid, the construction of the base according to the invention is characterised by an increased carrying strength and capability to withstand falls, leading to an improvement of the transport safety and lower tare weight.
The base according to the invention is explained in the following based on the figures of the drawing, illustrating the following in: Fig.1 -a perspective illustration of a transport and storage container for liquids fitted with the base Fig.2 a perspective view from the outside, and Fig.3 a perspective view from the inside of a corner foot of the base.
The main components of the transport and storage container 1 for liquids intended as a single-use or multiple-use container according to Fig.1 are: an exchangeable, parallelepiped-shaped plastic inner container 2, that in the top end is fitted with a filler socket 3 that can be closed with a cover 4 and with a discharge socket 6 in the region of the bottom end 7 to be connected to a draining fitting 8, a metal outer jacket 9 from intersecting horizontal and vertical grate rods 10, 11 as well as a pallet-like base 12 having longitudinal and transversal dimensions according to European standards.
The base 12 of the transport and storage container 1 has a bottom 13 to support the inner container 2 as well as corner and central feet 14, 15 mounted on a foot frame 16 and on which the bottom 13 as well as the outer jacket 9 of the inner container 2 are fastened.
Into the sheet metal shell 17 of the corner feet 14 of the base 12 inward directed ieinforcing beads 18 are stamped, which extend vertically to the upper and lower support edge 19, 20 of the sheet metal shell 17 over its entire height 21.
The increased carrying strength and capability to withstand falls of the base 12, brought about by the reinforcing beads 18 in the sheet metal shell 17 of the corner feet 14, makes the reduction of the thickness of the sheet metal of the sheet metal shell 17 possible, so that a reduction of the tare weight of the base and consequently a lower empty weight of the transport and storage container 1 is achieved.
Claims (2)
1. A pallet-like support base especially for shipping and storage containers for liquids which are equipped with a plastic inner container with a closable filler connection and a drain connection for connection of a drain fitting and with an outer jacket consisting of a metal cage or sheet metal, the metal support base including a bottom for supporting the inner container and corner and middle feet mounted on a base frame and on which the bottom of the support base and the outer jacket of the inner container are mounted; wherein the corner feet of the support base consist of a shell plate in which inwardly directed reinforcing beads are formed running vertically towards upper and lower support edges of the shell plate along the entire height of the shell plate.

A pallet-like support base especially for shipping and storage containers for liquids which are equipped with a plastic inner container with a closable filler connection and a drain connection for connection of a drain fitting and with an outer jacket consisting of a metal cage or sheet metal, the metal support base including a bottom for supporting the inner container and corner and middle feet mounted on a base frame and on which the bottom of the support base and the outer jacket of the inner container are mounted; wherein the corner feet of the support base consist of a shell plate in which inwardly directed reinforcing beads are formed running vertically towards upper and lower support edges of the shell plate along the entire height of the shell plate, substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
