Description
AUSTRALIA
Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD PATENT MOBILE ROTATING SIGN ON TROLLEY The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me: Nicos Koukoulas: Patent Application for Rotating Advertising Sign on Trailer ROTATING ADVERTISING SIGN ON TROLLEY This invention relates to improvements in communicating advertisements by means of a rotating advertising sign.
There are currently many examples of static advertising signs and billboards.
Some are mobile, being towed on trailers, or mounted on taxis, others are merely pasted on billboards erected for this purpose.
For an advertisement to be effective, it needs to attract attention, and keep the awareness of the viewer for a long enough period to be encoded in the sensory memory.
Memory is an active information processing system that receives, organizes, stores and recovers information. For information to be retrieved, it needs to have been encoded in the first place. Research indicates that people's attention remains focused for a longer period of time on moving objects, as the element of curiosity as to what will be displayed next is aroused.
Because of the novel way in which this invention presents the information the continuous rotating motion which engages the attention and curiosity of the viewer, the advertisement will keep the attention of the viewer for a longer period of time and therefore have a better chance of being encoded in the sensory memory and then later transferred into short term memory, so being a more effective advertising tool. If information is retained in short term memory, then it has a better chance of reaching long term memory and so has a stronger possibility of being recollected by the viewer.
The novel method of displaying the advertisement on the different faces of the board which is continuously rotating makes this invention a more effective advertising tool.
The advertising sign is intended to be carried on a trailer, which can be towed by a motor vehicle.
The sign will be constantly rotating either horizontally or vertically on the platform or trailer base as shown in the attached diagram.
Nicos Koukoulas: Patent Application for Rotating Advertising Sign on Trailer The shape of the sign is flexible as indicated in the attached diagram, and can be either square, triangular, round or a combination of these shapes, and will rotate either clockwise or anti-clockwise.
The constant is that the sign will be rotating, and so will not constitute a static display.
The sign will have a number of sides, which hold the advertising material, and the motion of the sign will attract the viewer's eye, due to the rotating motion and the element of curiosity as to what may be displayed on the next board.
The motion and rotating exposure of the advertisement will make it a unique and effective advertising tool, which can perhaps be best described as a mobile and rotating advertising billboard.
The rotation of the sign will be achieved by means of either: a motor; reduction gearing directly from the trailer wheels; hydraulically; or by means of the airflow created by the motion of the vehicle.
The rotating sign can also be conveyed by means of a small truck or Utility Nicos Koukoulas: Patent Application for Rotating Advertising Sign on Trailer
Claims (6)
1. The advertising billboard is fastened to a trailer or Ute.
2. The trailer or Ute can be in motion, (the trailer being pulled by a motor vehicle), or can be stationary parked in a strategic area.
3. The advertising billboard which can be configured in any one of several shapes, will have the constant which differentiates it from other advertising billboards presently available, that it will be always in motion, that is, constantly rotating and so engaging the attention of the viewer for a longer period of time, attracting the sense of curiosity of the viewer, making it a more effective advertising tool.
4. The rotating advertising sign is ideally suited to developing a story concerning the product or service being offered on each of the rotating surfaces of the sign. It can be used to emphasise or reinforce the claims of the product or service being offered through repetition of key elements of the claims on each of the rotating surfaces, or can simply be utilized to advertise different products on each separate surface. In each case the sign is rotating, beckoning the viewer to wait to see what appears on the surface which is going to be next displayed.
As the attention of the viewer is engaged for a longer period of time, the advertisement has a better chance of being encoded in the sensory memory of the beholder, and thus being transferred to short term memory.
6. The mobile rotating advertising sign is accordingly an improvement in communicating advertisements. Name of Applicant: Nicos Koukoulas Date: August 2003 Nicos Koukoulas: Patent Application for Rotating Advertising Sign on Trailer
