Description

Motion Factory- "Air Keys Innovation specification" CONFIDENTIAL Description Page 1/3 Description: System and method for non-tactile computer interaction The use of interactive information kiosks in public areas has quite often been the domain of touchscreen technology, which due to cost is generally limited to quite a small screen and therefore audience.
We saw an opportunity to increase the usual touchscreen audience of 1 or 2 to 10s or 100s by increasing the size of the screen and using a different approach to user navigation and choice selection than a traditional touch screen device.
Choices can be made by one or more users and results displayed to many more via a range of output devices such as a projection screen, these choices are made by the users by moving their hand, or other refective object in front of the "virtual buttons" built into the media content the user is viewing, this movement is "seen" by the sensing array and the corresponding action is made by the computing device for display on the screen The drawings accompanying this application on Drawings page 1/1 illustrate the following Figure 1 is a logical flow through of the components involved in the "airkeys" system as referenced in the claims and abstract pages Figure 2 is an example illustrating a screen with a hand in front of a sensor array connected to the computing device which responds with the matching content and displays on the screen or other output device, as referenced in the claims and abstract pages.
Motion Factory- "Air Keys Innovation specification" CONFIDENTIAL Description Page 2/3 The purpose of this invention is to provide a novel and alternative way to interact with a computing device by using a non-touch method of user input. The system works through many semi-/transparent materials and has a range of possible configurations and uses.
An array of movement sensors enables computer choices to be made without physically touching any part of the device.
An example applicaton would be in shopfront street windows which have generally contained either physical displays or video displays, the "airkeys" system allows for such things as an interactive information and video display which viewers can make choices on and select on-screen options from behind the glass window.
Many applications can out of the box use the system via pre-configured assignments, and uses in gaming, music performance and production, graphics and other creative applications would benefit from a different form of inputing data and making interactive choices freed from the keyboard and mouse.

Claims (6)

1. A method of interacting with a device comprising the step of: activating a computing device(2) in response to user interaction with a sensor array in a non-tactile manner(l), the computer responds to a human input, wherein a media file(3) or other raw data is processed by the computer in reaction to user choices, facilitatating the changing of a state of a screen or other computer output device(4).
2. The method of claim 1 wherein the sensor array is a customised configuration of commercial proximity sensors, microprocessors, and keyboard control buses.
3. With the innovation a user can operate a computing device without touching it, such as but not limited to retail e-commerce kiosk, information or gaming interfaces in public spaces, interactive billboards and other environments through but not resticted to glass with no hardware on the users side.
4. A system for interacting between a computer(2) and a viewing device(4) wherein a viewing device(4) and sensor array(l) are linked to a computer(2) the system comprising a computer with a graphical interface, viewing screen and a sensor array, wherein the sensor array(l) receives a non-tactile human generated input, therein computer responding to the input, the media file(3) used to change a state of a device, and wherein the sensor array(l) transmits the command to a computer(2), to play the media file(3) on a screen(4) A method for interacting with a device comprising the steps of: displaying a media file on an output device(4); receiving interactive commands at a computer(2), the interactive commands corresponding to a media file(3) played on a computing device(2); and displaying the interactive content on an output of the computing device(4)
6. A person using the system is able to interact with a computing device using natural gestures without touching it.
7. This innovation also works through materials transparent to infrared light, such as but not limited to glass or perspex allowing no physical contact or access to the hardware(1,2,3,4). Motion Factory. 19th January 2004
