Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT MOUNTING BLOCK LIGHT The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me: Page 1 MOUNTING BLOCK LIGHT Mounting blocks have been available for many years and used to mount light switches and power points to walls. The main purpose of the mounting block was to provide space behind the power point for the connection of wires coming out from the wall cavity.
Sometimes the wall was made from brick and the block was used in place of a wallmounted box that was chiselled into the brickwork. The mounting block light invention was devised in order to provide a low power consumption light that is easily retrofitted to a light or power outlet that helps the user identify the light switch in the dark and provides a nightlight towards the floor or ceiling to illuminate the wall and any small area at night. The mounting block light also serves as a mood or feature light that is attractive and forms an integral part of an existing or new light switch or power point when installed.
A mounting block light in accordance with this invention comprises of a plastic mounting block to suit the applications switch or power outlet, a high brightness LED light source protruding through the outer edge, and a small circuit that is insulated and connects to the 240Vac mains across the light switch or to the power outlet.
The mounting block light is positioned behind the switch or power point and between the switch and the wall surface. The invention sits between the switch and the wall, the light may be positioned to shine up or down depending on the effect required. There are two double insulated wires that connect from the LED light to the electronic circuit and a further two double insulated wires that connect from the circuit to the active and neutral wires of a 240Vac Power outlet or the switch-wire and active wires of the light switch.
When the light switch is on, the mounting block light turns off, when used with power outlet wiring the mounting block light is always on.
The light emitting diode (LED) is chosen to provide a white light at 7,000 to 10,000 mcd output. The led consumes 30mA at 3.5Vdc, which is 105milliWatts. When measuring the actual current flow into the circuit at 240Vac the result was observed to be 0.00743 Amps or 7.43milliAmperes and 1.75Watts at 240Vac.
Page 2 The mounting block light can be removed at any time in the future and the switch or outlet returned to its former state when required. It may be moved to another point easily by disconnecting and reconnecting to another point to suit changes in a dwelling I situation or if no longer needed as a night light or effect light.
The mounting block light may be better understood with reference to the illustrations of the embodiments of the invention which: Figure-1: Sketch Diagram of the main components, and wiring Figure-2: Sketch of the Mounting Block, light switch assembly with LED Light Protruding Figure-3: Schematic Diagram the electronic circuit and a typical wiring configuration.

Claims (4)
1. A mounting block can comprise of a rectangle surround or a block of round wood for the purpose of mounting a electric light switch or power outlet, which includes a hole in the middle to allow egress of cables and a formed surround to enable screws to be inserted to affix the power outlet or switch device to a wall or flat surface.
2. A mounting block can as claimed in claim 1, wherein the surround has an LED light protruding though its side wall and an electronic circuit to power the light from the source it protects. The light may be made to disperse up or down depending on orientation of the mounting block and the effect desired. The cabling for the light is contained behind the switch or outlet and inside the mounting block and wall cavity.
3. A mounting block light according to any claims 1 and 2 wherein the block is made from plastic, the circuit and cabling from semiconductor, copper cable, circuit board, insulation and a Light Emitting Diode source.
4. A mounting block light can according to any claimsl1-3 wherein the mounting block with light is affixed to the wall behind the light switch, between the wall and the light switch, and shines a light out from the mounting block when connected. A mounting block light can substantially as herein before described with reference to Figures 1-3 of the accompanying drawings.
