Description

MODIFIED CLOTHING This innovation relates to modified clothing to be worn by people with disabilities that are confining them to wheelchairs. The new design provides a more effective, classic fit and increased comfort.
Existing modified pants for people in wheelchairs may include a higher, elasticized back and a traditional front waistband. These current designs have some complications with the fitting of the garments: Extra fabric is added to the top of the back of the unmodified pant design; however, the height of the fabric is not supported. When transferring in and out of the wheelchair, the pants to slide down the buttocks, thus revealing undergarments and/or scarring. This gives the wearer of the garment embarrassment and decreased modesty when transferring or moving in the wheelchair.
Often with pants, both modified and unmodified, when the wearer leans forward, the pants gape, thus revealing undergarments and/or scarring.
Existing modifications remain compromised in fit, as the back lacks sufficient tailoring for the sitting figure. The improved modified pant increases modesty, comfort, fit and aesthetic appeal of the garment on a sitting person.
Pants, in accordance to this invention compromises a garment with darts extending from the side toward the center back seam in the buttock area. This increases the fabric available to cover the said area without creating excess fabric at the front of the pant. The multiple darts, 4 in preference, shape the seat of the pant, so as to not gape or fall down when transferring.
To aid dressing, a fastening is placed in the side seam of the said area, preferably a zipper. Velcro may also be used successfully. The fastening is to be constructed similarly to a zipper fly as to eliminate the risk of catching the skin on the zipper when fastening.
Pants, in accordance to this invention have an insert of fabric separating the said darts and fastening. This decreases the bulk at the side seam or fastening, thus reducing of developing pressure problems caused by bulk fabric, as well as to aid the ease of functioning of the said fastening.
The pants are preferably made from durable, breathable stretch fabric; however, other dress fabrics can be used. The pants may also be made from suitable fabric from which unmodified pants are constructed from.
The invention may be better understood with reference to the illustrations Figure 1 is a side elevation of the modified pant, with the fastening dotted, showing the relationship between the front and back of the modified pant, with additional fabric in the buttock area.
Figure 2 is a back elevation of the modified pant, showing the darts extending from the side of the pant.
Figure 3 shows detail of the separated back of the modified pant.
The garment shown is a pair of pants with multiple darts 1 extending from the side toward the back seam 5 in the buttock area, as to increase fabric available in the said area without creating excess fabric at the crotch area of the front of the pants.
An insert of fabric 2 separates the said darts 1 and fastening 3. This reduces the bulk of fabric at the fastening 3, thus increasing its ease of use. Fastening 3 is constructed similarly to a zipper fly as to eliminate the risk of catching the skin on the zipper when fastening.
