Description
Description Ultra bright LED's (light emitting diodes) mounted in a circular fashion. Using a light chaser gives a rotating beacon effect with no moving parts. Referring to beaconjpg attached. This is a plan view. 12 circuit boards shown in this drawing are mounted perpendicular to a base circuit board. The base circuit board has the electronics to turn the LED clusters off and on mounted on the twelve circuit board segments. These twelve segments are mounted in a circular fashion.
When the beacon is first switched on two concurrent banks of the twelve banks of LEDs are switched on. After a delay the next bank is turned on and the last bank is switched off. After a delay the next bank is switched on and the last switched off. This gives a rotating beacon effect.
For a brighter rotating beacon more then two banks can be on at a time and more then twelve segments can be used. To minimise power consumption one bank can be switched on at a time but at the cost of light intensity. The minimum amount of segments is determined by the amount of light spread or viewing angle of each of the LEDs. The brightness of the beacon should not vary as you move around it, if the LED viewing angle and segment amount have been correctly chosen. Due to the long life of LED's and low power consumption this has advantages over the old motorised version. The motors do not last long and the lamps have large power consumption.
