Complete Specification Applicant: Pauline Edwards Title: Trousers Address for Service: LESICAR PERRIN, 49 Wright Street, Adelaide, South Australia 5000, Australia The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me/us: Trousers The present invention relates to trousers. In particular the present invention relates to jeans type trousers worm low around the hips.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Jeans are very popular with both men and women and are almost universally worn as casual clothing. Where jeans are not worn other forms of cotton trousers are also very popular. Similarly, at present it is fashionable for both men and women to wear trousers with a dropped waistline placed around the hips. This style of low -slung trouser is particularly popular when worn as casual jeans.
Presenting a stylish appearance is often a paramount consideration for many people when considering clothing options and all too frequently the need to be fashionably presented outweighs the need to be comfortable.
One of the features of cotton trousers and jeans in particular that has been observed is the fact that they are not noticeably insulating forms of clothing and in cold or damp environments can be uncomfortable. Whilst being cold is not in itself an especially dangerous thing, the wearing of cold clothing an exposure to cold weather might perhaps lead to increased occurrence of cold related illnesses, chills and respiratory infections and the like. It is also true to say that whilst clothes are selected for a fashionable appearance with little or no thought for practicality after wearing clothes for some time the fact that clothes are not comfortable becomes of increasing significance and can reduce the enjoyment of life of the wearer.
It is to this situation that the present invention I addressed. It is an object of the present invention to provide trousers that combine enhanced degrees of comfort and practicality with a fashionable hipster appearance and denim manufacture.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Therefore according to a first aspect of the present invention, there is provided a pair of trousers having an outer shell, said outer shell designed on the basis of aesthetic requirements; said outer shell having one or more insulating liner portions, said 3 insulating liner portions being secured to the outer shell such that they are invisible from an outer view and being positioned so as to increase the overall comfort of the wearer of the trousers and an insulating back liner, said back liner being raised above the front waist line of the trousers.
It has been observed by the present inventor that hipster style trousers leave a wearer particularly exposed in the vulnerable lower back portion of the body. By including a raised insulated back portion the comfort of the wearer can be increased without detracting from the important front appearance of the clothing.
Preferably, the insulating liner portion and the back liner portion are constructed of a multi-layer material having an insulating core and a soft comfort cover. Preferably, the insulating material is a neoprene material with a knitted cotton cover. More preferably still, the raised back liner may include extra layers of fabric or other wadding to increase comfort on wearing the trousers.
Preferably the liner portion of the trousers is shaped so as to cover the front leg area and the back leg area.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention the liner portions are secured to the outer shell by sewing. It is advantageous if the liner portion seams do not coincide with other seams to avoid bulk in some areas of the trousers.
DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS The above and other objects, features, and advantages of the present invention will be apparent from the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment in conjunction with the accompanying drawings. In the drawings: Figure 1 represents a front perspective view of a pair of trousers in accordance with the present invention; Figure 2 represents a rear perspective view of the trousers of figure 1; Figure 3 illustrates a side view of the trousers of figure 1 Figure 4 illustrates a front view of the trousers of figure 1 turned inside out; 4 Figure 5 illustrates a rear view of the trousers of figure 1 turned inside out; and Figure 6 illustrates a cross-section through a leg of the trousers.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Shown in the drawings is a pair of trousers 10 formed in accordance with the present invention. The trousers 10 include an outer shell 12 and inner lining portions 14, 16, 18 and 20. In addition the trousers 10 insulating back liner 22.
The outer shell 12 is designed on the basis of aesthetic requirements. Thus, in the case of the present embodiment the outer shell 12 is formed as a pair of denim jeans having a moderately straight leg appearance, a zip fastening front fly 24 finished by a stud button closure 26. A waistband 28 at the top of the jeans includes opposing side tabs 30. The side tabs 30 serve to adjust the waistband 28 dimensions by gathering portions of the material together in known fashion. The waistband 28 is lowered so as to form as pair of hipster jeans. The jeans are 10 typically constructed of heavy weight twill cotton fabric having double stitched outer side seams. In many senses therefore the outer shell has all the appearance of a standard pair of fashionable denim trousers.
The insulating liner portions 14, 16, 18 and 20 can be seen to best advantage in figures 3 and 4. The insulating liner portions 14, 16, 18 and 20 are sewed to the outer shell 12 of the trousers. A first set of insulating liner portions 14 and 16 extend across the rear leg portions of the trousers 10 and partially over the buttock area. The liner portions 14, 16 are symmetrical and arranged as a mirror image of one another. As shown in the drawings the outer part of the leg area remains free and the liner portions 14, 16 do not reach as high as the waistband 28. The liner portions 14, 16 are secured to the outer shell 12 by the inner leg seams 32 and 34 on the on one side and separate seams 36, 38 that extend along an outer edge of the liner portions and across the top edge thereof in an arc.
The liner portions 14,16 are formed of neoprene coated with a knitted cotton material for comfort.
A second set of mirror image insulating liner portions 18, 20 is used over the front leg portions of the shell 12. The liner portions 18, 20 extend over the whole of the front leg area and are secured in the leg seams to the shell 12.
The liner portions 14,16,18 and 20 are thus not visible from an outer view and being positioned so as to increase the overall comfort of the wearer of the trousers. The section of the back leg portion of the trousers that is not covered by the liner material allows freedom of movement for the wearer without bulk being an issue.
The insulating back liner 22 is generally coincident with the waistband 28 in the embodiment under considerations and is formed of soft insulating material for comfort.
In this case the liner material is extended around the whole circumference of the waistband 28. It is also clear that the waistband is formed at two levels. At the front of the trousers the waistband 28 rest lower on the body than the waist, generally around the hips. At the sides of the trousers the band 28 is raised so as to then cover the lower back of the wearer and rest above the waist. As the band 28 is made of insulating material the trousers thus help keep the wearer warm at the back whilst allowing an attractive and fashionable front appearance.
The invention has been described by way of example. The examples are not, however, to be taken as limiting the scope of the invention in any way. Modifications and variations of the invention such as would be apparent to a skilled addressee are deemed to be within the scope of the invention.
