Abstract

A heat exchanger tube (typically for an automotive heat exchanger) includes a core, external boundary surface and internal boundary surface. The external boundary surface includes zones devoid of material having melting point lower than the melting point of the core and/or the internal boundary surface includes zones with material having a lower melting point than the core. Additionally or alternatively the external boundary surface may include a layer of corrosion protection material and/or cathodic protection material. The tube provides increased strength, corrosion resistance and brazing characteristics particularly for primarily aluminium tubes of seamed construction.
