Description

Regulation 3.2
AUSTRALIA
Patents Act 1990 COMIPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT Name of Applicant: Actual Inventor(s): Address for Service: Invention Title: R.A.M. LOCKSMITHS PTY. LTD.
DARREN MICHAEL PULEIO SANDERCOCK COWIE 69 ROBINSON STREET DANDENONG VIC 3175 CABINET LOCK 2002.0&2 1,AA401ram.file.wpd. I la- TITLE: CABINET LOCK FIELD OF THE INVENTION This invention concerns locks for cabinets with sliding doors.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION A cabinet lock for sliding doors comprising a lock body, a 570 cylinder assembly slidable Copyright. All rights reserved.
Sandercock Cowie 2002-08.2 1,AA0 W i nnpatmI -2axially in the body between a locked and unlocked position, a locking pin projecting from the lock assembly, an axial spline in the lock body, a spur projecting beyond the circumference of the cylinder assembly arranged to ride in the spline to allow or prevent axial cylinder assembly movement in response to key rotation.
Thus by simple key operation, the assembly and locking pin slide in and out of the lock body. The movement may be about 15mm so the entry of the locking pin into the sliding door is considerable compared with prior art locks. A spring acting between the body and the assembly may urge the assembly into the unlocked position. The lock body may have a rebate for assisting installation on the sliding door.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS One embodiment is now described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:- Figure 1 is a plan of a door in position on the sliding doors of a cabinet.
Figure 2 is a section of the lock in the unlocked position.
Figure 3 is a section of the lock in the locked position.
Figure 4 is an end view of the lock in Figure 3 with the end plate removed.
Figure 5 is an end view of the lock in Figure 2 with the end plate removed.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION WITH RESPECT TO THE DRAWINGS Copyright. All rights reserved.
Sandercock Cowie 2003-06-24,A:O4rOlam.inpatwpd,2 -3- Referring now to the drawings, a die cast zinc alloy body 2 has an axial, through bore 4 of capsule shaped section. A steel block 6 of capsule shape cross section is a slide fit in the bore. Cylinder 8 is mounted in one half of the block. These together constitute the 570 cylinder assembly. A stainless steel pin 10 projects rearwardly from the other half of the block. The bore is closed at the rear end by plate 12. The cylinder has a spur plate 14 which is secured by screws 16. A spur 18 of the plate projects by 2mm beyond the circumference of the cylinder and abuts the edge of the bore.
The bore has an axial spline 20 with the same section as the spur. The spline is offset from the spur by 35°. When the key releases the cylinder, the cylinder is free to rotate aligning the spur with the spline and allowing axial sliding of the assembly. The pin moves in and out of a keeper in the cabinet door. A coil spring 22 biasses the assembly to the unlocked position where it projects from the lock body.
The lock body has a rebate 24 and a bevelled face 26 adjacent the rebate.
We have found the advantages of the above embodiment to be:- 1. It makes possible use of a 570 cylinder assembly in locks of this type.
2. Deep engagement of a locking pin which is difficult to cut through.
It is to be understood that the word "comprising" as used throughout the specification is to be interpreted in its inclusive form, ie. use of the word "comprising" does not exclude the addition of other elements.
It is to be understood that various modifications of and/or additions to the invention can be made without departing from the basic nature of the invention. These modifications and/or additions are therefore considered to fall within the scope of the invention.
