Description
P/00/011 28/5/91 Regulation 3.2(2)
AUSTRALIA
Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT Application Number: Lodged: Invention Title: MOBILE PHONE POCKET IN A GARMENT The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to us MOBILE PHONE POCKET IN A GARMENT The present invention relates to improvements in garments such as shirts, jackets, trousers and the like.
It is becoming common practice for mobile telephones to be carried by their owners continually, however, when not in use, their storage becomes a nuisance. This may be resolved to some extent by carrying the mobile phone unit in a belt connected pouch, a separate bag or simply in the conventional pockets of a garment worn by the owner. Normal pockets in garments, however, are not adapted particularly for carrying a mobile phone making it uncomfortable for the wearer and in some cases risking inadvertent loss of the phone from the pocket.
The objective of the present invention is to provide a holder for a mobile phone as part of a garment, the holder being substantially hidden from view but acting to safely hold a mobile phone when not in use.
Accordingly, the present invention provides a holder for a mobile phone forming part of a garment, the holder being formed as a separate mobile phone holding pocket adapted to the shape of the mobile phone located within a conventional pocket of said garment.
In accordance with a second aspect the present invention also provides a pocket structure forming part of a garment, the pocket structure including a first pocket configured to the shape of a mobile phone formed by material joined at its perimeter to said garment leaving an access region for permitting a said mobile phone to be received in and held by said first pocket, and a second pocket substantially covering said first pocket, said second pocket being formed by material joined at its perimeter to said garment and having an access opening leading to said second pocket coincident with the access region leading to said first pocket.
By providing an arrangement as set out above, a mobile phone may be carried, when not in use, in a pocket of a garment specifically designed for this purpose. The pocket is, however, hidden from view which maintains a conventional appearance for the garment, particularly when the pocket is not carrying a mobile phone. The design of the second normal pocket overlying the pocket retaining a mobile phone, helps to support and retain the mobile phone comfortably when the phone is stored in the pocket structure.
In a preferred embodiment, the access opening and the access region may open in an upwards direction and an upright seam joining the material forming said first pocket to the garment is coincident with an upright seam joining the material forming said second pocket to the garment. Conveniently the material forming the first pocket includes at least one gusset enabling the volume of said first pocket to expand.
Preferably, the garment is a shirt and the pocket structure is formed on a breast region of the shirt.
One preferred embodiment will hereinafter be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a front view partially broken away of a pocket structure in accordance with the present invention located on a garment; and Figure 2 is a section view along line II-II of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings, a garment 10 is shown having a pocket structure 11 applied thereto. The pocket structure 11 may be a breast pocket for a shirt or similar, or in fact any other pocket on any form of garment. The pocket structure includes a first pocket 12 formed by material 13 sewn along upright seams 14, 15 and a lower seam 16 to the base material 17 of the garment. A second pocket 18 is formed by material 19 completely overlying the material 13 of the first pocket 12. Conveniently the upright seam 14 joining the material 13 to the garment 10 also joins the material 19 to the garment 10. A second upright seam 20 and a lower seam 21 also form the second pocket forming material to the garment As illustrated in the drawing, the material 13 forming the front face of the first pocket 12 may include at least one gusset 22 to enable the volume of the pocket 12 to increase if needed to accommodate different sized mobile phones 23. Each of the pockets 12 and 18 are conveniently open upwardly to enable the phone 23 to be located in or withdrawn from the first pocket 12.
