Abstract

The invention relates to an occupant protection device for a vehicle with an inner part (10) which consists of a dimensionally stable support part (60) and a cover (62), said cover consisting preferably of a foamed intermediate layer (66) and a decorative layer (61) and being connected to said support part over a large area; and which is configured as an instrument panel. The occupant protection device has an airbag (16) which can be inflated by means of a gas generator (20), whereupon the airbag (16) penetrates a section (76) of the inner part (10) that thus open, entering the vehicle interior. According to the invention, the airbag (16) is located between the support part (60) and the cover (62) in the form of a folded bundle (14).
