Abstract

An anesthetic composition (I), in the form of a combination preparation, comprises: (A) xenon (Xe) or Xe containing gas, and (B) a volatile anesthetic (VA). An independent claim is also included for a gas mixture (II) for anesthesia, comprising Xe (10 - 65 vol.%), VA, oxygen and inert gas(es) to a total of 100 vol.%. ACTIVITY : Inhalation anesthetic. In anesthesia tests in pigs using combinations of Xe and halothane, the minimal alveolar concentration (MAC) of halothane was 0.88 (by probit analysis) or 0.93 (by empirical measurement) in presence of 15 vol.% Xe, compared with 1.02 (by probit analysis) or 1.08 (by empirical measurement) in the absence of Xe. MECHANISM OF ACTION : None given in the source material.
