Description

1 NEW AND IMPROVED SIGNALLING DEVICE This innovation relates to a new and improved signalling device such as a flag or flogger, particularly of the type used by spectators at sporting events.
Spectators at sporting events often use flags in the colours of the team which they support or which bear the emblem of the team, or floggers in team colours.
This innovation provides such a signalling device with means for providing sound, such as the theme song of the team being supported.
The innovation provides a hand-held sign having: an elongated sign support which may be held by a user; a sound generating apparatus mounted in said sign support; and a sign mounted on said support; said sound generating apparatus including: speaker means; a sound storage device; energy storage means to provide operating power to said sound storage device and said speaker means; and switching means operable by hand or by motion of the sign support, to activate said energy storage means to provide operating power to said sound storage device and said speaker means whereby to cause pre-recorded sound to emanate therefrom.
Any suitable sign support may be provided, in the form, for example, of a rod or tube to which at one end a flag or other signalling device may be affixed and at the other held by a user.
The sound generating apparatus may be mounted within said elongated sign support with the switching means extending therefrom so that it may be activated by hand. Alternatively, the switching means may be activated by motion, as the support is moved.
C:\windows\TEMP\Prov Connolly.doc 2 Any one or more speakers may be provided mounted on the support for broadcasting sound.
Energy storage means in the form of batteries in the preferred embodiment may be mounted within the sign support. Any number of batteries may be provided for this purpose.
The sound storage device may be in the form of a micro-chip of which sound is recorded.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing where a tubular sign support supports flag A plurality of batteries may be placed within the tubular handle A switch is provided in association with a sound storage chip (not shown) to activate speakers as required.
It should be appreciated that various modifications and variations may be made to the above described construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the ambit of the present innovation as defined in the claims hereto.
