Description
Perfect mitre cover For as long as cornice has been used in house construction, well over 100yrs the method for filling the gap between where two cornice lengths meet either in internal corners, external corners or on a straight wall as a butt join has not changed. This method of plastering mitres and joins in cornice has always had it's problems, unsightly cracking and opening up either by house movement and settling or age.
Perfect mitre cover will eliminate faulty workmanship, plastering mitres and butt joins is the hardest of all cornicing skills to perfect. Plaster filling of mitres and butt joins is very time consuming, an average home has between 25 to external mitres and butt joins but could be as many as 70 or more, a plasterer has to work on each external mitre and butt join at least twice and a third time if sanding is required, an average of 2 to 3 hours per house.
This invention has been specially devised in order to improve the quality of cornice mitres and joins in houses both aesthetically and structurally. Every mitre is sharp uniform and perfect. Perfect mitre cover will eliminate all cracking open of internal and external mitres and butt joins.
The perfect mitre cover will save up to 50% or more of labour input as a plasterer had to work on the mitre or butt join only once. Non skilled labour would be able to install. Any handyman could repair cracks in cornice mitres and joins in their own homes using the perfect mitre cover, most older houses are afflicted with this problem. Perfect mitre covers will eliminate plasterers and builders returning to do repairs of mitres and joints in houses still under warranty.
The perfect mitre cover is designed to fit over the face of a cornice mitre both internal and external and butt joins. It is an exact copy dimension wise as the face of the cornice and would be available in the three cornice sizes currently used.
The perfect mitre cover could be made to any length either side of the mitre join but aesthetically under 10cm would look better.
The perfect mitre cover is preferably made from plastic to form a sharp precise internal and external mitre, other materials could be used that are capable of being painted, perhaps metal or hard thin cardboard.
The perfect mitre cover fits over the face of the cornice and is held in position by an industrial strength adhesive that has the properties of longevity also allow enough time for the installer to fit the perfect mitre cover into position before setting, A silicone glue could be used also, wallpaper type glues would work as well.
To assist with understanding the invention, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings which show examples of the invention.
FIG 1 is an elevation of the perfect mitre cover (external) in position to be fitted over the face of a corniced external mitre.
FIG 2 is a side elevation of the perfect mitre cover (internal) in position over the face of the corniced external mitre.
FIG 3 the perfect mitre cover shown shows a straight edge 1 but this edge could be any decorative shape or even feather edged and set by a plasterer to show no joint between the perfect mitre cover and the cornice.
FIG 4 is an elevation of the perfect mitre cover (internal) in position to be fitted over the face of a corniced internal mitre.
FIG 5 is an elevation of the perfect mitre cover (internal) in position over the face of the corniced internal mitre FIG 6 is an elevation of a cornice mitre cover butt join in position to be fitted over the face of where two cornices form a butt join.
FIG 7 is an elevation of a cornice mitre cover butt join fitted in position over the face of a cornice butt join.
The bonding system used to hold the perfect mitre cover over the face of the cornice mitre or joint would be where the entire back surface of the perfect mitre cover is coated in a wallpaper glue and adhered accordingly or alternativly a silicone glue applied with a silicone glue applicator along the inside of the top rails 4 and bottom rails 2 along the inside of the end edges 1 and at the mitre 3.
