Description

The invention described is a stick designed for playing field hockey that incorporates a weighted component that is mobile within the confines of the sticks outer shape. The aim of this product is a stick that transmits more energy to the ball when a fast moving stick strikes a ball, similarly, the stick will absorb energy when a fast moving ball strikes a stationary or slow moving stick. The invention consists of a stick that is conventionally shaped and has a hollow cell behind or close to the ideal point of percussion for striking the ball when the ball is on the ground. The hollow cell is partially filled with a dense material that is preferably non metallic, and is fluid or granular in nature. The cell in aligned such that as the stick accelerates downwards from the top of the back swing the enclosed material by itA,A's own inertia moves to the back of the cell away from the hitting surface. On impact with the ball the stick rapidly decelerates and the material in the cell moves to the forward face that is in contact with the ball, in this manner the energy imparted by the stick to the ball is increased. The cell can be made of any rigid or semi rigid material and should be of a size and shape that can be accommodated within the shape of a filed hockey stick that meets the requirements of the International Hockey Federation rules. It is also possible and desirable to put one, two or more cells into a stick at the same time.It is also envisaged that it may be possible to add and remove material from the cell after the stick has been fabricated, to meet the individual needs of players.
