Abstract

According to the invention, the proportion of sunlight (Is) and/or artificial light (IK) of the spectral power density (I lambda ) in a spatial volume, which is illuminated by sunlight (S) and artificial light (K), is determined using at least one sensor and/or filter located in the area concerned. The generated signals are saved and evaluated by an arithmetic unit. The wavelength-dependent ( lambda ) absorption of the sunlight (S), which traverses the entire earth's atmosphere, by gas molecules is measured in characteristic absorption bands (12, 14) using sensors which generate signals for the spectral power densities (I lambda ). The proportions of the sunlight (S) and the artificial light (K) are determined from the comparison of the spectral power densities (I lambda ). This method is used to control and/or regulate lighting installations in a room or in motor vehicles, in both cases even with varying amounts of sunlight (S). The method allows an adjustable spectral power density (I lambda ) or total illumination density of sunlight (S) and artificial light (K) to be maintained.
