Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable use of a graphite brush and to prevent production of an oxide by providing a recess in each segment in the contact surface of a commutator and by fixing in this recess an insertion body of a contact material having the same height as the surface of the segment. CONSTITUTION: Segments 1 of a commutator are formed of copper or a copper alloy and supported by a cylindrical support 7 made of insulating plastic. In an outer peripheral region, the segments 1 are insulated electrically by radial slots 8. At least one groove 4 in the circumferential direction is formed in each segment and an insertion body 2 of noble metal having the same height as the surface of the segment is inserted and fixed in the groove. The insertion body 2 of noble metal is provided within the contact surface of the commutator which is determined by the width of a carbon brush.
