Abstract
Steel wastes in the form of chips and/or grinding dusts are treated by cold compaction to form pressed bodies. To allow easy and inexpensive recovery, the wet steel wastes are compacted without pretreatment with application of a pressing force of between 200 and 400 N/mm<2> to give the pressed bodies, which reach a density of at least 2.5 g/cm<3> at a green strength of at least 300 N/mm<2>, their residual moisture content being reduced to less than 10% by weight by the compaction. <IMAGE>
