The device serves for the removal in particular of labels (E) from a label stack (ES) accommodated in a container (150) and consists of a gripping arm (211) which is arranged in a supporting frame (10), is vertically movable and can be swivelled about a vertical axis, and of a stock roll (222) for an adhesive tape (20) consisting of a strip-shaped carrier having an exterior adhesive coating (21), and also a take-up roll (223) for the adhesive tape, said tape (20) being guided about the free head-shaped end (212) of the gripping arm (211) in such a manner that a small adhesive surface is formed as label-gripping portion (26) which, when lacking in adhesiveness, is constantly replaced with an adhesive gripping portion by advancing the adhesive tape (20), and seizing and transporting of the individual labels to a reception position by means of the gripping portion (26) are automatically performed by means of lowering the gripping arm (211) onto the label stack and lateral swivelling combined with simultaneous vertical adjustment. <IMAGE>
