Abstract
Two ring transmission paths (1a,1b) connect the nodes (3) with wavelength division multiplexed transmission end transponders (5) whose signals are optically multiplexed in a multiplexer (7) before being split into branches (9a,9b) and added to traffic in the ring fiber band filters (13e,13w), that block any signals of the same wavelength as the added signals. The power of the signals is tapped to drop couplers (15e,15w) and a cross-connect unit (19e,19w) connects only one of the signals to the appropriate receive end transponder (21). AN Independent claim is included for a node in the network.
