Abstract
In downloading updated data from a TMN Central Repository to the controlled equipments (the TN nodes), an equipment is required to get data directly from a neighbour, nevertheless keeping the strict control of the TMN OS. The overall procedure is fired up by simply transmitting the identifier of the piece of data to be downloaded to all the involved equipments and the piece of data itself only to a critic subset of equipments. All equipments that get fresh data declare it as available. At the reception of the downloading identifier every equipment poll its neighbours for the availability of the new data, using the identifier as a searching key. When a supplier is discovered, the needed data are loaded from it (e.g. using FTP) and a validation message is sent back to the TMN OS. So, by putting for the very first time the needed data to the nearest equipment, the data is made available to the others by a domino propagation effect, saving the bandwidth of the data transport network. When either all or a consistent number of validation messages are received by the TMN OS, it instructs the equipments to switch the standby memory bank into the running state making the new data ready to be used (fig.8a-1).
