Abstract
Benzopyran derivs. of formula (I) and their derivs. are new. In (I) an adjacent pair of R5-R8 = -X-CR12R13-CR14R15-Y-substd. by A1E1; the remainder = H, OH, alkoxy, NH2, halo, NO2, CN, alkyl, aryl or aralkyl; X = CR10R11 or a bond; Y = O, S, NR20 or CR16R17; either (a) R14+R20 = a bond and opt. R10+R12 = a bond; (b) R12+R14 = a bond; or (c) R10=R12=R14=H; and R11, R13, R15-R17 = H, alkyl, NR21COR22, CN or CnHxF(2n+1-x); or a geminal pair of R10-R17, together with the C to which they are attached, form CO or C=NOR23; or a vicinal pair of R11,R13,R15 and R17 may form -CH=CH-CH=CH- substd. by A1E1; R20 = H, alkyl, aryl or aralkyl, when not linked with R14; A and A1 = a bond, (CH2)m or arylene; n = 1-10; x = 0 or 1 to 2n; m = 1-10; R21-R23=H, alkyl or aryl; E and E1 = COOH or 5H-tetrazolyl; provided that when -X-CR12R13-CR14R15-Y (i) is CO-CR13=CR15-Y, Y = O or S and A = A1 = a bond, then Y is bonded to R7, R5 = R13 = H, R8 = propyl and R15 = E1 which is 5H-tetrazolyl or CONR24R25 (R24 and R25 = H, alkyl or aryl); (ii) is CO-CR13 = CR15-NR20 in which one of R13 and R15 is E1, then E1 = H; and (iii) is CR11=CR13-CR15=N, then at least one of R11, R13 and R15 is NR21COR22, CN or CnHxF(2n+1-x).
