Abstract

1. A hydraulic tube expander having : a cylindrical probe (3) introducible into the tube ; at least two spaced-apart ring seals (4) each received in an annular groove (6) in the probe (3) ; and a connecting line (7) which is connected to a pressure medium supply and which supplies pressure medium to the seal-receiving grooves (6) and to the probe outer periphery disposed between the at least two ring seals (4), characterised in that the pressure medium supply to the probe outer periphery disposed between the at least two ring seals (4) is solely by way of at least one of the seal-receiving grooves (6) and at least one aperture (9, 9a) between the groove (6) and the said outer periphery, such aperture being disposed on that side of the groove (6) which is near the outer periphery, is closed in the normal state by the ring seal (4), the same being operative as a valve lid, and is open only when the ring seal (4) engages sealingly in the expanded state with the tube (2).
