Abstract
The invention relates to a method and device for determining surface defects, especially cracks in slabs, by flame-scarfing said slabs on the surfacehereof along specific contours followed by a visual inspection. According to the invention, the slab that is to be verified is straightened when the geometry or size thereof is known and a defined spatial position is adjusted or the coordinates of the edges of the slab are automatically determined in a learning process by contacting or contactless scanning, whereupon a flame-scarfing device is subsequently guided along at least one spatial curve corresponding to the position and size of the slab by a path-controlled manipulator.
