Abstract

A closure and container package are provided in which the closure has an elongated orifice (50, 50'). A spout cover (40, 40') on an underside surface of the cap portion (24, 24') of the closure receives a spout portion (58, 58') disposed about the orifice (50, 50'). A snap hinge (28, 28') couples the cap (24, 24') with the closure body (20, 20'). The spout cover (40, 40') forms a sealing contact with an exterior surface (62b, 62b') of the spout (58, 58'). In a first embodiment, a spud urges the spout (58, 58') into contact with the spout cover (40, 40') to enhance contact therebetween. In another embodiment, the spout sidewalls outwardly bulge upon molding, but upon cooling become substantially parallel to facilitate contact with the spout cover (40, 40') to form or enhance the seal. An annular seal (80, 80') extending downwardly from a portion of the closure seals the closure head-space to present vapor infiltration and condensation therein. A mold for forming the closure is also disclosed.
